Merlin had told her that the door was unlocked and she understood it as the invitation it was, but still she hesitated before entering his home. After all, Merlin wasn't the only one to live there and she wasn't sure if Regulus would be in or not, and she didn't want to upset him. But this hesitation wasn't doing anyone any good. Freya took a deep breath before pushing open the door a smidgen and peering into the apartment.

"Merlin?" She stepped through the crack and shut the door with a quiet snick. "Merlin?" she called again, wondering if perhaps he wasn't in any longer. But then, his door wouldn't be unlocked. Not now anyway. She crept further into the main room and glanced at the jarred bedroom door as if afraid to approach any further.

She could have stood there for an hour in her own indecision, except she knew Merlin was not fine. Or simply tired. He was hurt. Maybe not physically but emotionally counted just as much. Freya understood that better than some and it was that understanding the drove her toward his bedroom where she barely hesitated this time before pushing open the door.

Merlin heard the second call from where he had curled up in his bed, but couldn't be bothered to remove the blanket from over his head. He'd curled up in bed after leaving Arthur and Gwen, and hadn't moved since. When his door swung open he tugged the blanket down to his nose, peeking out at her. "Freya."

He lifted the blankets invitingly, for her to slide under, and curl up with him. Merlin wasn't physically hurt. A few scratches and bruises, but he's had worse. It was more emotionally like she thought. Merlin had never lost Arthur. Never. Not that the prince was dead, but he wasn't himself anymore. He rambled and was scared and could hardly complete a sentence. Even when he'd smiled at Merlin - it wasn't right. Arthur on top of everyone else just took its toll. Merlin was supposed to great, that's what everyone told him, and he was used to being able to face anything that came at them.

"You look happy," she teased, crawling under his blankets. She faced him, tracking a tiny cut across his head with a small frown. Morgana could heal it. At one point, she might have been able to heal it, but Freya doubted it was the largest of Merlin's concerns. Yet, she kept tracing a gentle finger over it, wanting him to speak to her for once. Wanting him to open up and confess what they both already knew, because it would make him better and more stable to have his fears out in the open.

She searched his eyes and moved forward, kissing the corner of his lips and then wound an arm around his waist, pressing her forehead to his.

"You don't want to hear it, but Merlin, this isn't your fault. This isn't your fault."

"Thrilled." He hugged her close, curled against Freya, and closing his eyes as she traced the little cut across his head. He winced a little, but didn't mind. She was waiting for him to speak, to explain, but he was quiet a while longer. Instead kissing her back lightly, and letting her pull him close.

"I'm supposed to protect them all. Him especially. I can't even heal - make it right."

Freya's lips quirked, just slightly, and she refrained from pointing out Merlin wasn't often all that good at healing and making things right. His frustration hurt her to hear. He wasn't good at sitting still and not tripping into action. That he was huddling alone in his bed would scare her if she let it.

"Has Morgana tried yet?"

Merlin was more then aware of his lack of healing ability, and that it should've been no surprise he was useless at it as always. It was just frustrating. He could save people from death, but couldn't mend a scratch. It made no sense at all.

"Not yet. She will." Merlin yawned and closed his eyes. He felt bad laying here like this. Morgana, Uther, and Ygraine were looking after Arthur, Gwen, and Gail. Leon was looking after Gwaine. They all took turns. Merlin felt like he should be doing more for them, but he couldn't be bothered to get out of bed. Now that Freya was with him, he definitely didn't want to get up.

"They're going to be okay." Freya wiggled her hand between them and set it on his chest. He was afraid and agitated and Freya wasn't used to seeing him this withdrawn. She traced a faint circle over his heart and frowned. He shouldn't doubt himself as much as he was. Things were hard now, but they would always be that way here.

"You'll take care of them. But first you need to take care of yourself. It's going to be okay."

He offered a tiny smile and nodded at her reassurances. They were always okay here, and he tried to remind himself of that fact. It wasn't like Arthur was just gone. Once Glory was gone - It would be alright. It had to be. That was like - the rules of this place. Merlin just hadn't considered how much of his life revolved around Arthur's well-being in so long, that this was a shock, that was only made worse by the fact that it was more then one of his friends that were hurt.

"Right. I'll - take a nap, and then go see if I can help Morgana or Leon." He yawned a little bit. His magic never tired him out like this, but then again - Merlin didn't consider it was probably just the stress of it all. Having Freya around relaxed him a little though, and it was easier to close his eyes without just thinking more about Glory and everything she'd done lately.

Freya didn't respond with words. She slowly slid her fingers through his thick hair, tugging on it lightly and watching it fall back into place. It was curling slightly below his ears again, something she hadn't seen it do in some time. She wondered if he even realized it.

"Do you want me to stay?" she finally asked without letting up the gentle sweep of her fingers through his hair.

Merlin's grip on her waist tightened slightly at the question. He nodded, letting her fingers comb through his hair. He had no desire to be alone right now, and if she let him he'd probably drag her off later to go see Arthur and Gwaine later too. "If you don't mind..."

"I don't. I came here for you, remember?" She tucked his head under her chin and cradled him close. Freya couldn't recall a time Merlin needed her more. She clung to him and hoped he would sleep easier for it. She didn't want him to have poor dreams alongside the horror of his day.

"I'm not going to go anywhere."

"Thank you, Freya." He shifted slightly as she pulled him closer, and curled up against her. Merlin couldn't begin to say how much he appreciated her just being there. "I'm glad you weren't hurt - that you stayed safe."

"I wouldn't-" Freya bit her lip. She couldn't say the words. If Merlin got hurt, she couldn't promise she wouldn't react. She didn't know what exactly she would do. The tiny little cuts and bruises were enough to make her heart hurt, and those were minor compared to the damage that could have been done had Merlin not been who he was.

"I know how to stay hidden." She dragged her knuckles down over his temple and left them there a second. "Nothing bad will happen to me."
