Entry tags:caroline salvatore, isabel evans

Who: Caroline Forbes and Isabel Evans.
What: Caroline finds Isabel after Glory's done with her.
Where: A street in Colligo.
When: Evening.
Rating: PG for mentions of blood and violence.
Status: In progress.

Caroline had been devastated by the news of Molly's death at Glory's hands, and even moreso by the news that the other girl had been tortured first. Molly had been one of her first friends in the city, outside the people from her home, and they had become very close in her time there. They had even been looking at campus apartments and had nearly settled on a place. Even knowing that death was rarely permanent in the city, that people usually came back, didn't ease the pain of Molly dying. It hurt, in the magnified way that came with all emotions for a vampire, and she hated it. It didn't help that John was hurt or that Anders had lost Neria and that people were dying or being hurt or brain-sucked every day and there didn't seem to be a way to stop it.

She hadn't really left her apartment much since the news had come of Molly's death, except to check on Adam and Jude or spend time with Damon, and she'd mostly ignored her PDA. She knew she was worrying some people, but she had kept in touch with Elena and Bonnie and had checked on Jenna now and then too. But she was going stir-crazy and so she went out for a little while, hoping to get some air. She didn't plan to stay out too long, but it was a nice night, and she got caught in her wandering. And then, suddenly, she smelled it. Blood. She knew she should run the other way, but she wouldn't be able to live with herself if someone was hurt and she didn't at least try to help. So she ran, using her vampire speed to her advantage, coming to a stop when she saw someone lying on the side of the road.

She knelt down and gasped as she realized that it was Isabel, and that she was alive but badly hurt. She was bloody and beaten, and it looked as though the hell god had done a number on her. "Oh god...oh god...oh god!" She briefly considered taking the girl to the clinic, but wasn't sure they would make it on time. "Hey," she said gently, brushing Isabel's hair from her face. "Hey, stay with me, okay, Isabel? I need you to look at me. Come on...open your eyes" Her hands were shaking and she could feel herself panicking, because this girl was just becoming her friend and now she could be dying and she didn't know what to do. Finally though, she felt a sense of calm settle over herself. She'd done this for Matt. She could do it for Isabel. Bringing her wrist to her mouth, she bit it then pressed the bleeding wound to Isabel's lips. "Isabel, I need you to drink this. It will help. Just drink it. Okay?"

Isabel's eyelids fluttered and her hands convulsed with the energy of her alien abilities, causing them to throw off sparks. Her head lolled from side to side and she moaned, "Max... Max..."

The more she came to, the more the memories came flooding back. The supermarket. Orange juice. They were all out of it at the apartment, and she liked it with her breakfast---mixed with three splashes of Tabasco sauce. She hadn't even seen Glory's minions coming until it was too late.

And then she lost track of time. Isn't that how it works? Good things happen, and time flies by. But when it's bad, when it's painful and terrifying and wrong, time slows down. Each second means another slice into her skin by Glory's knife. Another moment that her shoulder is out of its socket, white-hot pain searing through her entire right side. Punch, slap. Hair pulling. Jabbing her fingers into cuts and bruises. That couldn't have all happened in one day, could it?

The knife.

She could still feel it---stuck in her left thigh. Eyes closed, she tried to reach for it, but she couldn't control her convulsing, bloodied hand.

But she was all right. Isabel was all right. He would heal her, and she would be fine.

Max would save her.
