Sam's heart beat just a little too fast. He wasn't nervous, but he was apprehensive. Like when he learned to drive. There was a certain level of excitement, but there was also the innate knowledge that this was something huge, and potentially life altering. Meeting Ruby face to face, again, could go either way.

He'd met her on the street when she first arrived. Caden had been with him then. Sam had had something of an upper hand, because Ruby had been new to Colligo, and a little disoriented. Sam had been thinking a lot about her since then, and the unresolved feelings he harbored for her.

He had cared for her, far more than he would ever admit. She had been there for him when Dean was dead and gone. She had carried him through those horrible months without his brother, and even though the promises she made were lies, she'd offered him comfort he couldn't get anywhere else. The blood and the sex had been bonus, and Sam wasn't just ashamed to think of tall that now, but he was...excited by it. Turned on. He tried to deny it, but damn, the sex had been good and the blood had made him feel invincible.

He cleared his throat as he approached the crisis center. Dean and Claire were somewhere near by, which gave him a sense of both security, and violation. He'd asked them to back him up for their benefit more than his own. He knew neither of them would be happy with him if he met with Ruby on his own, but he felt like a child dragging them along. He could handle Ruby, he could take care of himself. He wasn't going to fall in to any traps she might try to lay for him, because there was no need for her promises in Colligo. Dean was alive and well, twice over. Lucifer had come and gone, Azazel too. Whatever threats they faced, they could face head on. Sam didnt' need Ruby's blood any more than he needed her lies.

What he really wanted was her friendship. But Dean would never understand that, and Sam knew he'd have a fit if Sam ever said as much out loud. So Sam would play by Dean's rules and expectations. At least on the surface.

"Ruby," Sam greeted her with a forced and awkward smile.

"Is there even a point of doing this if your brother and his wife are going to come running in the second it looks like I'm 'screwing' with you and start flinging the salt and holy water?" She trusted Sam. She didn't trust Dean.

"I want to talk to you, Sam. I really do...but I don't want to do it knowing that someone's hovering over us, waiting to pounce at the right moment. It's nothing against you, really. But it has everything to do with the fact that Dean is not my biggest fan."

"I know," Sam scrubbed a hand over his face. "That's why I told you they're here now. I want to see you, alone, without them influencing every breath I take. The second I look like I've let my guard down, they'll swoop down and come in for the big intervention." Sam sighed. "And I get it, I do. They want to protect me. I've got Caden now, and can't be reckless and stupid and" Sam waved a hand. he hoped it looked convincing to Dean and Claire. He hated deceiving them, but he didn't see much choice.

"Hopefully the fact I agreed to see you like this, with them tagging along will appease them, and they'll back off. They mean well, and I really wouldn't have them any other way, but..." Another waved of his hand, a shift of his hip. "But I'm a grown man and I want to see you. Alone." There was nothing suggestive in his tone or his stance, he wasn't thinking of getting her alone to do anything inappropriate or immoral.

	"I know. I want that too." Sam dropped his gaze for a moment. "Give me a fay or two. I'll contact you, we'll figure something out. but for now, I can go and they can see you kept your hands to yourself and everything" Sam's expression turned mournful for a moment, but he recovered quickly ad returned to his neutral expression.
