WHO: Eames and Dream
WHAT: Does Morpheus approve of Somnacin? Enquiring minds wanna know.
WHEN: This evening
WHERE: Morpheus' flat
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

Eames didn't like feeling nervous. It made him fidget more than usual, which was why he had one hand shoved into his jeans pocket, wrapped around a small glass bottle. He would not fidget with a vial of Somnacin. His poker chip, though, was being spun over and round his fingers. Normally, he could guess how people would react to things, how he could tell them things and not have them lose their temper or laugh in his face, but he truly had no idea at all about how this next meeting was going to go.

Still, he wasn't going to find out by dithering in his living room, was he?

He was out of the flat and standing in front of Dream's front door in a couple of seconds, and then he twisted his hand round to catch his poker chip before knocking on the Boss's door.

Morpheus had been a bit moody of late, thanks to the arrival of a rather brazen succubus, and also the death--and resurrection--of Neria's love interest. He was not sure if Neria and Anders were actually lovers, or if she was just in love with him, but neither was he sure if he even wanted to know. It seemed that even when he met someone who wasn't human, wasn't strictly mortal, that it was just not to be.

And then there was the matter of the sex water incident, which he would have preferred to forget, and the young lady whom he had unintentionally insulted.

So it wasn't that he wasn't pleased to see Eames, when he opened the door at the Forger's knock, it was just that he had a great deal on his mind. Dream was hardly a social butterfly, even at the best of times--and with the way that things had been going, he tended to fear the worst. "Good evening," he said, stepping back to allow the man entrance, "If indeed it is a good evening." Which he doubted.

"Well, it's an evening, at least," Eames admitted, then stepped into Morpheus' flat and turned to face him. The poker chip was back on the move. "Do you mind if I make myself a cup of tea?" he asked after a moment, pausing to see what Dream's reply would be.

"Also, I think this might be of interest to you," he said, taking the vial out of his pocket and passing it over to the Boss before going into the kitchen.

"By all means, help yourself," he replied, gesturing toward the kitchen. "The water should be hot already."

He turned the vial over in his hands, holding it up to the light as he followed his sometimes apprentice to the kitchen, studying its properties. In a way, it was like a liquid version of his Sand--or at least a liquid imitation. No one would ever be able to replicate the real thing.

"So this is how your kind were able to begin to tap into my realm," he mused, watching Eames refracted through the tiny glass. Every once in a while, there were those born with a natural ability to do so, though not all of them ever possessed the control or finesse to Forge or to Shape things with any safety. Should it come as any surprise that those without would one day aspire to understand and grasp their dreams as well? "It is truly inspired. Dangerous, but inspired."

Eames went through the motions of making tea, only pausing to slip his poker chip back into his pocket. He glanced back round at Morpheus when he started talking about the Somnacin, though. "It is. I'm not one for chemistry, or I could tell you the formula for the compounds if you wanted to know, and the different customised blends there are, and I've worked with a lot of chemists, so there are all kinds of blends. Some make the dream seem hyper-real, with everything being far too sharp and clear. Others make everything warm and fuzzy and sleepy. Apparently some people like to dream as if they're off their face on weed, but I'm not one of them. They can edit the time dilation, as well, and... all sorts of things, really."

He fell quiet once more, then scratched idly behind his ear as he allowed the tea to brew. "A supply of Somnacin showed up in my flat. Cobb found some as well. I don't know how or why, other than guessing that it's Asaph playing with us yet again, but I thought you should know it's there. I just... I'm, I wasn't sure how you'd react, if I'm honest."

"Edit the time dilation?" Morpheus gave one of his ambiguous almost-smiles. "So can I." But then, he could also Forge, and Build, and Extract, all flawlessly. If he seemed less than perfect in the waking realm, it was only because he couldn't be buggered to conform to petty minutiae, like casting a shadow. His shadow was perfectly normal--when he wanted it to be.

"Are you afraid that I will feel the need to do away with you, once and for all?" he asked, tilting his head in mild curiosity. "You should know that depends entirely on what you do with your compounds."

Eames turned to face Morpheus and almost-smiled back in response. "I've no doubt that you could stop the tides and have the sun rising in the North if you put your mind to it. Telling me you can do whatever you want in your own realm is hardly a shock, you know."

He had lifted his tea and was about to take a drink when the Boss kept talking. "I... wasn't until now? So that's a cheerful thought, thank you very much. But no, I just didn't know how you'd take it. I mean, I know I'd be livid if someone said to me that they had decided not to bother asking me to provide paintings any more because they had found a brain-dead chimp who could slap paint on canvas instead. Which is a strange metaphor, I know, and my paintings are nowhere near what you can do, nor is Somnacin a brain-dead chimp... And it's not that we're going to do anything like that, anyway, I just. I thought you should know that that's what we used, and that it's here now." He blew on his drink to cool it, then looked over at the Boss once more. "I would appreciate not being done away with, though."

"It's different here," Morpheus replied, retrieving his own cup from the table and topping it off. "You're different." The same rules didn't necessarily apply. "Yes, I have dispatched a few dream vortexes in my day--those who broke down the walls between dreams and sucked other dreamers into their own subconscious spiral. I don't just do away with them without first observing how they interact with my world."

He shrugged his shoulders. "I appreciate your showing me. Though I wasn't worried. I hear this stuff has some side effects that you don't get with the real thing."
