WHO: Lily and Sirius
WHAT: Sirius called for Lily's help last night.
WHEN: Morning after
WHERE: Her flat
RATING: TBD, probably swearing
STATUS: In Progress

Lily had been rather short with Sirius when he had called last night needing help to get home but she wasn't exactly going to leave him in the gutter all night. Even if he did deserve it. Even more so when it came to his drunken stupidness when she actually found him and all the comments he made as they walked back. She was use to it though; the teasings, the flirtations, the annoyances. You didn't get married to James Potter without being aware of such idiocies. But she had put him to bed on the couch, placed everything he would need in case he was sick by his side and made sure he was lying on his side just to make sure nothing bad happened. And if anyone told him she had kissed his forehead and brushed his hair back from his eyes once he had passed out she would deny it.

She had woken early that morning despite her night time jaunt, she glanced at James still asleep. There wasn't much point in waking him, and she had known him to be a child if woken before his body was ready to wake up. She considered pulling trousers on over her sleep shorts and a jumper over her thin sleeved cotton camisole but there was no point. It was warm in the flat and, after all, Sirius had seen more than her legs on more than one occasion, the impolite bastard that he was. Didn't matter if they told him to knock, he never did it. Glancing at him on the couch as she walked past to go to the kitchen, she laughed softly and shook her head before putting the kettle one. She might as well attempt some quiet time before she had to endure Sirius' hungover attitude.

"There isn't anything to talk about," Sirius replied. "I'm just waiting for that inevitable moment when I fuck it up completely and he remembers I'm a complete bastard and marries Dora." He did manage to look a bit surprised at his own words - maybe he was still a bit drunk and had a broken brain-to-mouth filter. Or maybe he just needed to be drunk again. Hair of the dog and all that. Lily had said there was still a bottle in the kitchen...

He latched onto the nursery topic like a lifeline. "I still need to buy you a present! A crib or a pram or... whatever else it is babies need." Sirius had a fair bit of money saved up from the garage, and he was actually quite excited to spend some on the baby. Like he always said - what was the point of having it if he didn't spend it?

"You wont. If you think you'll screw it up then you will, but you wont. You have no idea how often I thought I'd do something to mess up with James because I couldn't imagine me being this perfect woman he imagined for the rest of my life. I still worry about it. But trust me, it'll work out."

She hoped it would. They were both so happy together, even if neither of them would admit it. And they deserved it. Especially considering what was going to happen in the future. Whilst they were here they deserved all the happiness they could get.

"Whatever you want to give us. Really, we need anything."

"I'm pretty sure James had already seen the worst of you by the time you started going out. Remember that time you threw his glasses out the window? He liked you even when I told him you were a complete bitch about twelve times a day." He hesitated. "I mean... I told him that twelve times a day. You were a bit of a bitch pretty much all the time."

He wanted to believe what Lily was saying, but experience told him he was crap of relationships. Oh, he didn't know. He was too hungover for all this. It was easier to deflect onto the topic of her and James - a topic which he was all too familiar with, what with all the times James had forced him into dissecting every bloody moment.

"We should go shopping later in the week," he decided. "Otherwise I'll buy something mental and you'll yell at me."

"Well he should have kept his face north." She remembered that day. Catching his eyes on her breasts and she just took his glasses and out the window they went. That was before she really liked him of course. "And thanks for that. I am pleased to let you know that it is a mutual feeling. I always told my friends idiotic enough to take you into bed or an empty classroom that you're a selfish prick who only cares about his next shag."

He seemed determined not to continue the conversation about Remus and she would let it go. She had to. If not he'd either get angry or just make it pretty clear he was no longer wanting to discuss it with her at all and storm out. Well, storm out in a way a hungover man could which usually involved very slow walking.

"I don't need you to buy something stupid to yell at you, but yes. That would be nice."

"Well, I even won you round eventually," Sirius grinned across at her, pushing the thoughts about him and Remus back to the back of his head. "I'm just that bloody charming."

He nodded at the idea of shopping, before finishing off his coffee and sitting up, swinging his feet onto the floor. His jacket was thrown over the arm of the armchair, and Sirius reached over to check his wand, PDA and cigarettes were still in the pockets. Not that he thought Lily would have lost them, but there was every opportunity they could have gone walkabout before she found in.

"I'm gonna go for a cigarette," he decided, pulling the box out and flipping the lid open to count how many were left. He was mildly surprised Eames had pickpocketed them all.

"You didn't win me round. I found myself stuck with you."

James and Sirius came as a package deal. You marry one, you're pretty much marrying the other. She knew that the second she became an item with James. Sirius wouldn't back off, he was just a part of James and she had to deal with it. She was ready to tell him not to be stupid and that he really should stop smoking, but she knew he wasn't going to listen.

"Are you coming back for breakfast or are you going back home?"

"Same thing," Sirius dismissed. "I'm counting it as a victory."

He didn't miss the look she gave him, then stubbornly pulled a cigarette from the packet and tucked it, unlit, between his lips. He shot her a grin around the cylinder. He would give up, eventually. Maybe whenever Remus did. After all, he didn't have the benefit of going cold-turkey in Azkaban here, and he rather fancied living beyond his mid-thirties this time if he got the choice.

But smoking was really bloody wonderful. Maybe he'd just buy a motorbike helmet instead. Up his chances that way.

"What's for breakfast?" he asked.

"It isn't a victory. If I wanted to be with James I had to take you on too, you were just the shadow."

She raised her eyebrow at the grin and knew she really didn't look impressed. One of these days she would find a way to force him to stop smoking and she hoped it would be soon. He was harming himself. But at least he was always willing to keep from smoking when she was there.

"Whatever I feel like making when I move to the kitchen," she said as she reached out to take the cigarette from his mouth.

"Charming. It's nice to be wanted." Sirius squirmed out of the way, scrambling over the arm of the couch and onto the floor like an oversized puppy as she reached to steal his cigarette. He landed with a soft 'thump' on the floor, popping up a moment later to give her a warning look, cigarette still dangling from his bottom lip. For a split second he'd forgotten he was dying of hangover, only to have it return with a vengence the next moment.

"I'll make you an offer," he told Lily. "I'll give up when the baby's born. Okay? That was the plan back home. I was doing well until I turned up here and the stress got to me." He raised one eyebrow carelessly, shoving out a hand for her to shake. "Deal? To spare Harry's teeny weeny lungs?"

She couldn't help but laugh as he fell from the couch. She was just glad that the coffee didn't go with him, however she could have done with grabbing the cigarette rather than letting him get away with it. However when he made his deal, she slid over the couch to where he was, putting her mug of coffee on the small table in front of her.

"You do realise that even in my stomach you can damange his growing lungs, don't you?"

"Which is why," Sirius added, plucking the unlit cigarette from his mouth, "I am going out front to smoke this. Come on, Evans." He wriggled his still outstretched hand teasingly under her nose. "This is a one-time-only deal."

One thing you could say about Sirius was that when he made a deal with someone who mattered to him - James, Lily, Remus and Harry being the pinnacles of that - he always, always stuck to it. Alright, he could be the worlds most arrogant prick at times, but he'd honestly do anything for any one of them.

"And what if I didn't make the deal? Would you just keep smoking and putting Harry at risk?"

She knew he wouldn't. She wouldn't let him over to see him even if he so much as smelled as smoke. She wasn't going to risk her little boy in any way no matter what the situation was. He deserved the best start she could possibly give him.

"Noooo..." Sirius leaned forward over the arm of the sofa, cocking his head in a canine manner. "Course I wouldn't. But that's not the point. Stop guilt-tripping me, Lils. I'm hungover and suffering."

Then before she could dart away Sirius lunged forward and pressed a sloppy kiss to Lily's cheek. For someone currently dying of hangover (He was pretty sure his liver had vacated his body at some point last night.) Sirius shot his friend a remarkably perky grin and straightened up. His head spun unpleasantly, and he winced a little before sticking the unlit cigarette behind his ear.

"Right. I'll be back in five minutes. I'm in the mood for bacon sandwiches?"

"You get no sympathy from me when it's your own fa - SIRIUS!" She had no time to move before she was recieving a rather disgusting kiss to her cheek. Reaching out, she slapped at his arm the best she could as she wiped at her cheek glaring the entire time. "You're disgusting."

And he was proud of himself the bloody bastard. Watching him stand, she felt a slight pleasure in seeing that wince on his face. Good. He deserved it.

"Good for you, go tell someone who cares." She would make them. He knew she would. But that didn't mean she had to say to.

"Love you too, Lils!" Sirius called back over his shoulder. He'd already turned, grabbing his jacket from where it was thrown over the side of one chair and shrugging it on. "Oi!" He bellowed in the direction of Lily and James' bedroom door. "Prongs! Wake up, you lazy git! We're having bacon!"

The volume of his voice caused his head to throb painfully, but Sirius did a good job of masking it. He shot a grin over his shoulder, doing his best to ignore the remains of his hangover as he wandered out the door for his much needed nicotine fix.
