Who: Donna Noble - Open
What: Getting drunk
Where: One of the bars. Harvelle's probably.
When: Tuesday evening
Warnings: TBD

Now that there wasn't a ring on her finger, Donna decided that she could do two things. Go and drink, or run off like she had the last time. She wanted to run off, but if she did that, that meant probably not working on getting rid of the force field. And she was going to finish building that thing if it killed her. The next logical thing had been to get at least a little drunk.

It wasn't like Sam had broken her heart, not really. It was just that when she kept thinking that she'd found someone, something happened. Something always happened. They either didn't want to speak to her, hated being around her or then their girlfriends from their world showed up. Either way, she invited her friends out to join her and headed down to the bar to get something to drink.

That was it. Donna promised herself she wasn't going to go out of her way to help anyone out again.

In the time since she'd arrived in the city, River had gone on a trip with the others to explore the planet beyond, started her first day teaching at the university, and had no less than three locals approach her possessing information about her that no one other than a very select few knew. So when she'd spotted Donna's post asking for others to go drinking, she had spoken up nearly instantly. After the few days she'd had, a drink was most certainly in order.

She was a bit nervous as she made her way to the bar. She had never met Donna Noble before appearing in this city and yet Donna had known who she was on sight. The fact that Donna, who had travelled with the Doctor, knew her and Rose Tyler, who had also travelled with the Doctor, didn't, had given the woman a pretty good indication of when she very likely was going to stop seeing the Doctor. The thought was enough to cause her to ache but the worry that alcohol would make Donna tell her more than she'd already sorted out was almost enough to get her to ignore the ache in lieu of playing things safe.

Fortunately, River Song wasn't one for playing things safe and decided to take the chance. Worst case, she learned how she was finally going to die. If that happened, and she remembered upon returning home, so be it. For now though, she was just going to enjoy herself and get to know a companion of the Doctor's who seemed to keep him on his toes almost as much as Amy. Possibly more. She'd just have to wait and find out, wouldn't she?

Stepping inside the bar, it didn't take her very long to spot the ginger. With a grin she made her way over. "It's been my experience," she said as she slid into a seat, "if men were easy to get on with, women would find themselves very bored extremely quickly." A pause before her grinned turned a bit mischievous as she added, "Of course, that doesn't stop us from wanting to throttle them proper, now does it?"

It was odd seeing River when she didn't know who Donna was. But she got it, she really did. It had been like that time when she asked River why Donna hadn't been there when she had met the Doctor for the first time. Of course now Donna knew all of that, why she hadn't been there. Knowing wasn't all bad though. Knowing that she'd forget all of this and go back to just being normal Donna, forgetting all about the Doctor and everyone else was in it's own way, kind of comforting. She was glad to have her memory back, really. But she'd had more heartache here than anything ever good. And in that way, going back to forgetting didn't scare her like it used to.

Donna also knew enough to keep things from River. It should have occurred to her that clearly River had come from before she met her, but then she'd opened her mouth and said hello before it had set in. Spoilers. That's what River said, and Donna was definitely not in the mood for spoiling anyone. She didn't want anyone to feel as down as she did.

Seeing River again though made her smile. She had liked the woman an awful lot. Anyone who put the Doctor in his place was a friend of hers. "That's usually my problem actually, getting bored too quickly. At least at home it was. Here, I'm not sure what the problem is. Besides just men being idiots."

Grinning a bit, she waved the bartender over to let River order whatever she wanted. "You're right though, I think I want to throttle more than most." She sipped her drink and looked her over. "And how are you finding yourself in this tiny little place then? Bored yet?"

"Women have been blaming men for most everything since time began," River said with a smile and a shrug. "I see no reason to stop a perfectly fine tradition now." Ordering herself a shot of tequila, with a lager to chase it with, River waited until the bartender had gone off to fill the order before looking back to Donna.

"God, yes," she admitted with a half-laugh and half-groan. "I think I passed boredom around the time we returned to the city, in fact. I really don't know how you all have stood it for this long. It's positively maddening!" Of course, there was the fun of the city doing strange things to people. And the fact that there were people in one location who should never be in the same area at the same time. And probably a handful of other things, too. But really, it reminded River far too much of still being stuck in that prison cell for her to ever really warm to being trapped.

Knocking back the shot as soon as it arrived, she eyed Donna for a moment before finally setting the shotglass down and asking, "So I'm going to take a wild guess that things didn't work out with Sam as you'd hoped. Am I close?" And no, she hadn't seen anything more that Donna had said on her network post or anything of the sort. River just knew, far, far too well the look of a woman who had feelings for someone who didn't seem to reciprocate.

It was things like this that made her really like River. She got River. And anyone who was good enough to cheer her up, she always appreciated. "The day I stop blaming men for things is the day I stop yelling at people all together." And that just wasn't going to happen. That woman would fight and argue until the cows came home.

She grinned slightly, "It doesn't take us very long at all to get bored. Most of us anyway. Some people seem to be okay here. They've fallen in love and had kids and gotten married. They've been here years. Apparently I was here for quite a while before, but I don't really remember it." That was to say she didn't remember it at all. "Just when you get really bored though, something bad happens. As usual. Like being forced to be married to someone. Or becoming a child. Or having an alien invasion."

Donna really hoped that nothing like that would happen again. She didn't bother acting like River wasn't right on the nose. River was really perceptive, which was one of the reasons the Doctor liked her so much in the future, she supposed. "On the nose pretty much. I mean nothing really happened between us. So I can't complain too much. I guess it's just one too many times being rejected, you know?" she shrugged.
