Although Colligo wasn't home and Violet missed her family and friends terribly, she had to admit that the place wasn't half bad. Yes it was weird, even redefining the word as she understood it and boy did she understand weird. And yes, it wasn't very calm most of the time. Or at least not since her arrival. However the people were mostly nice, the classes at school were easy, and best of all she was free to do her part to help stop crime without having to worry about being targeted because of who her parents were. Not that Violet had an issue with her parents but when your mom and dad were two of the most famous superheroes to ever live, you tended to get noticed by all sorts. And kidnapped. And used as blackmail. And attempts at manipulating you to do some nefarious bidding. It was all par for the course, really, but Colligo was certainly serving as a nice break from it all.
Of course, with the good also came the bad, and the fact was that Violet had grown quite used to relying on her family as a support structure when engaging with an enemy. Granted there were no major bad guys that needed dealt with, which was good, but even going after small hoodlums was a bit trickier without Dash or her folks to rely on. Violet, however, did her best and typically wound up on top when all was said and done.
This, unfortunately, was not one of those times.
It had started out all well and good. She'd happened to stumble across a mugging taking place, had slipped off to get out of her normal clothes ever the more grateful for the suit Edna had created for her so she didn't have to fight crime naked, and had made her way back just in time to trip the guy who was starting to make his getaway. While he was busy scrambling to his feet, she had grabbed a large board and whacked him with it a few good times.
And then he'd pulled out his gun. Which, with her holding the board, had given him more than enough of a target to shoot at. It was only out of sheer luck and intervention from some higher power, Violet was sure, that the bullet had missed her but it had certainly been close enough that she'd dropped the board and ran for it. Of course, she wasn't exactly quiet in her flailing escape and the man did his best to keep up courtesy of the noise she was making even while invisible. Finally though she managed to slip off into a side alley and pressed herself firmly against the wall. The man ran past and Violet released the breath she was holding, sliding down the wall on suddenly nerveless legs.
A few seconds passed before she finally stopped trembling at her close call and looked up. It was only then that she noticed someone else approaching. Immediately she drew her legs to her chest with the intention of making herself as small of an invisible ball as she could manage until the stranger had passed. She might have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for the fact that her foot hit the edge of the dumpster and a loud bang echoed through the night. Wincing at her own stupidity, Violet immediately went as still as a statue and hoped against hope that whoever the guy was he wouldn't pay any attention to the random banging coming from a seemingly vacant alley.
