Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:jennsen, leon

WHO: Jennsen and Leon
WHAT: Jennsen talks to Leon about her new memories.
WHERE: the park
WHEN: backdated to yesterday, after Jennsen's wigging over the PDA
STATUS/RATING: Incomplete/TBD

Jennsen paced in front of the entrance to the park, her red curls bouncing with each step. She couldn't stop thinking about the memories she'd woken up with. Memories. She'd wanted so much to believe that they were dreams, or some other trick the city was playing on her. But the more she thought about it, the more she read about similar experiences on the PDA, the more she believed she had seen her future. And it wasn't good.

She stopped pacing for a moment, putting her hand to her cheek. Rahl's men had beat her to the point that she couldn't remember anything. Not even the simplest of things---her name, the village she had grown up in. Or her mother. Richard. And then Rahl had turned her against everything she believed in, had turned her into a weapon. Oh, Creator, she had almost given him the boxes. She had almost betrayed Richard, and helped to destroy her entire world. And the fact that she and Rahl were, that they all were...

Jennsen choked back a sob as she started to pace again. She wanted to forget. She would give anything to forget.

Leon's arms wrapped around her gently, letting her cry if she needed it, or try and explain what happened. He did not know who Rahl was, or how this small woman could ever do anything that could risk destroying the world, but he listened all the same. It was something he was good at, and obviously something Jennsen needed.

"But you do not fail, right? And that makes all the difference. Especially if your world was on the line. It wasn't your fault, Jennsen." Leon couldn't know if she was at fault or not, but he couldn't imagine her ever willingly doing something awful. What he knew of her, she seemed like too good a person to willingly cause harm to anyone. The simple fact that she was so upset about it told him it was not a choice she would want to make. As for this Rahl, he could not help if he did not know who he was.

"But it was...It was my fault...." Jennsen's mind was reeling, overcome by all of the new memories, but she forced herself to slow down, to start from the beginning. She cleared her throat, doing her best to speak evenly, "My world is made up of three main lands: D'Hara, the Midlands, and Westland. The emperor of D'Hara, Darken Rahl, is slowly but surely taking over everything. But it's not enough. He wants to secure his rule, and by gathering the three Boxes of Orden, he can use their magic to enslave everyone."

Jennsen paused, blinking away tears before she continued on, "Before I arrived here, I had just met my brother for the first time. The Seeker---a hero that emerges during times of great evil. And I learned of my own ability. Or lack there of, I guess. I'm pristinely ungifted. I can't wield magic, but it also has no effect on me. I was given two of the boxes to protect, and I went into hiding." Jennsen didn't mention the death of her mother at the hands of one of Rahl's Mord-Sith, Denna. It wasn't something she could talk about. Not yet.

"In the future, Rahl's men are going to take me. They're going to beat me... I'm barely going to survive." She closed her eyes for a moment as she passed through the memory. She could feel every kick, every punch, until she mercifully faded into unconsciousness. "I'm going to wake up without any memory of who I am or where I'm from. And Rahl is going to use me against my brother. He's going to fill my head with lies, to make himself look the hero. And I'm going to come close to stealing the final box from Richard, to delivering all three boxes to Rahl... And then he'll come close to destroying my entire world..." She couldn't hold them back any longer, she let the tears fall.

Leon brushed the few tears from her cheeks gently, and nodded as she explained all of it to him. Some of it still made little sense to him, like being 'pristinely ungifted' but he understands enough. When she spoke of being beaten he held her a little more tightly, as if he could protect her from those memories.

"Jennsen. You were beaten. You didn't remember anything. No one could blame you. I'm sure even your brother would agree." It would be little comfort. Tricked or not didn't change what had nearly happened, but he tried all the same. Leon certainly wouldn't have blamed her for anything, not after being beaten to within an inch of her life. When she finished he waited a minute before guiding her to a bench nearby, not letting go of her while she cried.

"You are safe now. No one will hurt you while you are still here, and when you are returned - which could be a long time from now - It will not be your fault. You had no memory, and you come close, but he doesn't get the boxes from you. " Leon told her the all of it again with absolute certainty. He smoothed back her hair gently, and just sat with her until she calmed.

"...I'm sure even your brother would agree."

Jennsen slowly nodded, "He would. He does. Instead of being upset with me, he helps me to remember---who he is, who I am. His mission. But before I leave again, before I go back into hiding, I keep something from him. I say nothing. I want to protect him, I want him to be able to focus on his mission. But it's something of such great significance..."

Jennsen allowed herself to be lead over to the bench, still being held by Leon the entire time. He was so thoughtful, so supportive... She was glad that he was the one she was telling this to.

"...but he doesn't get the boxes from you."

"No, he doesn't. But he comes so close." She paused, "Rahl has a way of twisting words. He'll state facts, he'll use bits of truth, and he'll bend them in a way that makes you believe him. So I know what he said was true. I know it in my heart. And I said nothing to Richard---nothing." She had to force the words from her mouth, as if she was spitting out poison, "Rahl is our brother, too."
