Who: The Doctor(10) and Alex Campbell
What: Reunion
Where: In front of the Library
When: Afternoon
Status: Incomplete

It wasn’t that long ago that Alex was just learning about time travel. The fact that he turned it down just showed how much he loved his how. He didn’t want to be.. Wherever the hell he was. He wanted to be on the Earth that he knew as home. Where his family and life was. Even though he had done a little bit to mess it up. Just like then the Doctor seemed to be there to rescue him again. He wasn’t sure if his great grandfather planned it that way or it just happened. In this case he was sure that it was just a coincidence. Either way Alex was glad that he wasn’t alone here. It was better than being in a new city, new planet with a bunch of strangers. Still he felt as if like he was just being rescued all the time. He really didn’t need that, he could take care of himself. Still he had a feeling that he didn’t only want to see the Doctor. Maybe the Doctor wanted to see him too. He did want to whisk him away to Gallifrey before.

There was a moment that Alex was about to walk off and find his apartment by himself. Only the thought of the Doctor appearing and freaking out kept him there. So he stayed put, just sitting down on the ground as he waited for his great grandfather and his TARDIS to appear.

The Doctor would be lying if he said he never thought about his family. He thought of them every day, in some capacity they always wormed their way into his thoughts. Especially now, as he got older and the memories of them slipped further and further out of focus. Of course, he had Jenny here, and she was some comfort. And he'd long since given up hoping for various people to appear on the steps of the library. There was no good to come from trying to predict their host.

And so it had been something of a surprise when Alex has shown up.

And he was young, hadn't yet lived through Darleks and the rest of the stuff that had torn at the Doctors heavily defended heart. And he wouldn't mention it to him, not unless he was explicitedly asked, and he would warn Donna to do the same. The Doctor had seen what the threat of a bad future had done to people who were stuck here, and he didn't want that for his great-grandson.

The TARDIS materialised outside the library as it always did, with a gentle throb of engines and a pulsing blue light. A moment later the door swung open, and his head of spiked hair poked around the frame, blinking in the sudden bright light. It was a second before the Time Lord's eyes adjusted, and then he was stepping out into the fresh air.

He knew he looked very different from how Alex had known him. Pinstriped suit and converse had replaced the waistcoat and crevat, he was taller and thinner and he looked younger. Not as young as the bow-tie-wearing boy who would eventually replace him, but young enough. He hoped, vaguely, that Alex would know him. Although he supposed the police box was something of a hint.

And there he was, sat on the steps and looking exactly how the Doctor remembered him, like he's stepped straight out of the old Time Lord's memory. Despite everything, a giddy, overenthusiastic grin split the Doctor's voice in two and his voice bounced over the space between them, his tone excited and genuinely happy.

"Alex!"

The sound of the TARDIS pulsing filled the air in the small area. Alex looked up to see it start materialising. He didn't know why but he actually expected it to take longer. He'd barely sat down on the ground. There was suppose to be waiting, maybe some thumb twiddling. He didn’t have time to even get semi comfortable. Not that he could on the hard cement. He just wasn't used to TARDIS travel time. Which seemed just to be a few seconds.

His body jumped up when the TARDIS doors opened up. He couldn’t help but be excited about having his great grandfather there. It hadn’t been that long since he lost saw him but still. He wasn’t expecting to see the Doctor ever again. If he did there was a feeling that it would be months or years. He wasn’t sure if this exactly counted though. He was told that he wouldn’t even remember this place if he was sent back by whatever took him. Well forget them. He was going to make the most of it well he could.

“Doctor,” Alex said much better at hiding his excitement than his great grandfather. Although he hid the excitement in his tone it could still be seen on his face. A grin that mirrored the Doctor’s was resting upon Alex’s face.

The Doctor waved one arm madly, bounding over the space between them to seize the boy by his upper arms, peering giddily down into his face. "Awh! Look at you! You're smaller. Although I'm taller, I suppose. And I saw you last a bit... later on. Anyway! Hallo!" He beamed down on him, realised he was still squeezing his great grandsons arms a bit too tightly, and quickly released him.

"Did you like the Library?" he asked, dark eyes flickering over to the tightly shut door before being drawn back to Alex' face, like a compass to a magnetic pole. The Doctor had loved the library. As much as he could ever love being manhandled away from books, of course. He and Jenny had even made a return visit, stealing the volumes with their names on. The Doctors book was hidden away deep in the TARDIS, buried where Rose and Jenny and Donna would never find it.

Seeing the Doctor like.. that was a bit strange. It wasn’t his Doctor but it was. Alex wasn’t sure how he could tell but he just could. It made believing that it was actually the Doctor much easier. Still he wished that his great grandfather would have been able to get him home. As much as traveling to a new world was cool and seeing the Doctor again was awesome he still wanted to go home. He wouldn’t say that right now though. He was just going to be excited to see the Doctor. Not as excited as the Doctor obviously was to see him but excited.

“’Ello,” Alex smiled a bit overwhelmed by his great grandfather’s excitement. He debated making a joke about moving so much he’d break a hip. Nah, it was something he could use later. Maybe in front of more people.

He looked back at the door. “It’s brilliant,” he smiled wondering if he was allowed to go back in.
