Who: Ariadne, Arthur and Eames
What: A little bit of what Ariadne's been up to in the past few days, and finding out whether these new powers follow everyone into dreams.
Where: The Dreaming
When: Sunday evening
Rating/Status: Probably PG-13 for language, closed/incomplete

The sky was opalescent and the trees were shaded a delicate mauve, their silvery trunks bending lightly in the breeze over a hill of lavender-green grass. Ahead, a collection of spires rose out of the water, their reflections seeming to defy the eye's ability to comprehend them. Were they a single unit or did they merely rotate around each other? Were they made of glass, or ice, or impossible towers of water rising and holding themselves above the pool?

A hint of tuberose was in the air, and the ozonic spark of a storm coming. A flock of birds with too many wings flew past, their calls musical and resonant like oboes. The spires thrummed deeply with the noise, echoing it back as if a bassoon had caught the melody of the birds' cries and repeated it in its own register.

Ariadne's voice floated over the hillside. "I know it's a bit eighties-fantasy-novel-cover, but I wanted to get that sky right, and the rest of it seemed to follow." She couldn't be seen but her voice sounded as if it was coming from nearby.

Arthur faltered just slightly as he began to take Eames' hand. From the moment he took it, to the time he'd sat down, his eyes hadn't left the forger's. Mainly because they were completely blacked out. Oh yes, there was the fangs but the eyes were a bit more startling variable. "Your thirst may be gone, but your teeth and eyes seemed to have followed you here."

Normally non-handsy, Arthur couldn't help but examine more closely. When he was done, the corners of his mouth turned up lightly, "It's a shame, I know a really good dentist and ophthalmologist back home."

Eames nodded as Arthur mentioned the fangs, but then frowned when he said about his eyes. "What's wrong with my eyes?" He stayed quiet as Arthur looked closer, although he was obviously confused. When Arthur sat back, Eames reached up and put his hand over Arthur's where it rested on his shoulder and smiled at his joke.

"Seriously, Arthur. What's wrong with my eyes? Are they fucked-up as well? I don't know what I look like," he admitted, then moved about so that he was lying down with his head in Arthur's lap.

Arthur's fingertips didn't waste much time in busying themselves in Eames' hair, "You still look like you. With some added features. Your eyes are completely blacked out. It's a bit startling when you're used to seeing your normal ones. But they aren't terrible though. The teeth are a bit..funny."

He gave Eames more of a smile, "When you smile they pop out over your lower lip. It's...it's kind of cute." Arthur almost sounded embarrassed to say it while he brushed a thumb over the forger's lips to get just a bit of a look at them. "Other then that, you're still you. Just some added additional features, but you."

A few things clicked into place, like how the few locals he'd drank dry had reacted before he'd even felt his fangs or the way Sirius had had a momentary flash of... something, before his temper had taken over. His eyes. Fucking hell. He brought up a hand to rub at his temple, and closed his eyes for a moment.

"I cannot believe you just called me 'cute'. You. With the dimples," he grumbled, then looked up at Arthur, and touched a thumb to where Arthur's dimples were. "I have scared the shit out of a number of people, looking like this, and you're calling me cute. Do you think there might be something wrong with you, love? Or are you just really into horror films?"

For the first time in a few days, Arthur laughed. A full on throw your head back and hold your stomach laugh. "In my defense, I called your fangs cute if you'd like to be technical. And I've never been a huge fan of horror films, I never really understood the shock value."

Arthur carefully slipped out from under Eames' head and crawled over him, bits of Arthur's loose hair curtained around his face. "And don't make fun of my dimples." Closing the distance, Arthur pressed his lips against Eames, feeling the sharp pressure from the two fangs pressing back against his own lips.

Eames grinned as Arthur tried to split his sides open with laughter, then laughed himself when he was given the order about the other man's dimples. "If I don't, who wi-" he managed to say before Arthur was kissing him, so he took the only sensible option and kissed back. His fangs scraped lightly at Arthur's lips and he was amazed to find that while he did want to nip gently, he had no desire at all to bite down hard and get at Arthur's blood.

Rolling the two of them over, he pulled away from the kiss to just look down at Arthur for a second. "Fuck, do you have any idea..." he breathed, then leant down to kiss Arthur again. "Let's stay here until this bloody awful experiment is over, just the three of us. I don't care that the grass is purple and the wood's made of silver. Ariadne can go tell someone to set you up with an IV, and I'm dead at the moment anyway so I don't think I need food... Can we stay? Can we do that?"

"No, you can't," came the reply. "I may have all this power but I don't think I could promise that you wouldn't fall into Limbo." And after accompanying Cobb there and seeing just what he had done, how could Ariadne possibly entertain the idea? "But you can come back, if you like. Or I could show you the snowflake world. It's fractal, I had fun with the geometry there."

A fennec fox trotted out from behind one of the trees nearby, her abnormally long and fluffy tail held out straight behind above the grass as she bounded over. Beneath its pointed nose a ruby pendant dangled, glittering, from a silver collar.

"Do you two want some more time alone?" asked the fox, in Ariadne's voice. She sat down, tail curling round her paws and one ear flicking slightly, in much the same way she would normally toss her hair out of her face. "Or I could stay and watch. If that's what you're into." Her jaw dropped in a vulpine grin.

It wasn't a half a second after Eames suggested it that Arthur could feel his muscles tighten and he did his best to casually wiggle out from under the man. He nearly thanked some being from above for Ariadne's interjection. Silently Arthur unraveled a tie from his pocket, putting it on around his neck like it was second nature. "Coming back on a daily basis for a while would be good. It would certainly be a silver lining in the hell that's going on outside."

Smoothing a hand over his hair, Arthur's hair fell back into place as it normally was on the outside. Perfectly slicked back, not a hair out of place. It wasn't until he noticed Ariadne wasn't standing around did he see the little fox in the lavender grass.

Arthur gaped. And then his lower lip disappeared into his mouth, "Don't you look just precious?" He couldn't help but tease just a fraction.

Eames couldn't help but stare. It probably looked awful with his stupid black eyes, but what the fuck? A totally irrational surge of jealousy blindsided him, because he was the Forger, he was the one who did everything and anything Morpheus asked of him in the Dreamshare eventually, he was the one who wanted to Forge an animal more than anything, and there was Ariadne just sitting there, the perfect neat little fox. He wiped at his face, snarling to himself when he scraped his hand on one of his fangs that he couldn't get rid of, couldn't even Forge them away because he was stuck like this, and then glanced round at Arthur, who was all buttoned up and neat again, and shit, he'd done this with his stupid question.

"You look lovely, sweetheart," he said as he got to his feet. Walking over to where she sat, he bent down to give her a quick scritch behind the (really very large) ears, and then he walked down towards the pool with the spires dancing around in it.

Ariadne's tail twitched as she saw Eames's expression shift. "Thank you for your condescension, Arthur, I am adorable," she said, tossing her head. The scritching made her shiver all down her spine - it felt weird, but really good - but then he was past her. She turned and ran after him, taking an impossible leap and bounding up the back of his shirt to drape herself round his neck.

"I could probably change you as well," she said, licking his ear in a parody of a kiss. And then she was back to herself, arms around Eames's shoulders and legs coming up to clasp around his waist for an impromptu piggyback ride. "And make Arthur some white tigers, if he wants. But I like the birdsong better than heavy metal."

Eames had been about to lift Fox!Ariadne down off his back, but then she changed back so he just gripped a hold of her legs and kept walking. It wasn't difficult when she weighed hardly anything at all. "I want to learn it, sweetheart. I don't want it gifted to me or done on a whim, I want to know that I've earned it," he told her, then stopped once they reached the rather sharp edge of the water and set her down carefully.

"Besides, it would be wasted on me at the moment. I seem to be unable to Forge, otherwise I'd get rid of..." and he gestured vaguely at his face. "It's probably something to do with being dead. Or undead, whatever it is."

"Yeah, it's going to suck when I have to give all this up," she said, sounding mostly unconcerned with the prospect. "So I'm making the most of it. Although I wonder if I'll remember how to Forge when it's over. I mean, that's not like the animals, and I probably won't be as good as you are, but... it's kind of cool to be able to do it." She took Eames's hand and looked up at him carefully, trying to discern the emotion behind those darkened eyes, before looking over her shoulder to Arthur.

"And less of that from you, mister." The breeze picked up and ruffled his hair loose again, his tie unraveling and whipping away into the trees. When she turned back to Eames she was wearing a cardigan over her dress, one that looked like it belonged to Mr. Earnshaw and was sized appropriately. "Come on. We have to go inside, the acoustics are something else." She set off across the surface of the water, splashing as she went but somehow managing to keep her dress dry.

Arthur look less then pleased as he tried to grab at his tie whilst it flew away from him. He was already edgy and as far as he was concerned, he'd rather be outside right now. Outside of the dream, in the real world. Letting out a huffy breath through his nose, Arthur pulled another tie out of his pocket, followed by a suit jacket as well. And he couldn't seem to smooth it out enough.

Messing with his sleeves, Arthur hesitated in following, instead he was too taken with how similar Ariadne looked to his projection. The dress. The sweater. Sadly, it was only helping to unnerve him more.

Letting go of Ariadne's hand, Eames watched as she took off over the water, then looked round as Arthur approached, wearing even more articles of clothing, this time. Wonderful. He shouldn't have opened his mouth. Looking back at the water, he tried to turn a leaf that was floating past into a boat so that Arthur and himself didn't need to get their feet wet, but nothing happened. "Shit. I am completely useless right now," he grumbled, then spoke up so that Arthur could hear, still staring into the water.

"Do you think you could conjure us up a boat, love? It seems that I can't change a bloody thing. I thought it was just me I couldn't change, but it's everything."

"Coming right up," she said, as the leaf spun itself larger into a crystalline boat and drifted closer. Once they'd climbed in, the boat skimmed quickly over the surface of the water and into what passed for an entrance to the spires. Inside the light was refracted into shifting beams and pools of light, no surface showing a direct reflection. Perhaps it was a trick of the light that made the spires appear to be breathing.

Ariadne stepped forward on her toes like a child's parody of a ballerina, staying up with unnatural grace. "I guess the part about vampires not being able to cross running water isn't true."

Still keeping quiet, Arthur and knelt down to do up his laces, being meticulous as usual. It wasn't until both shoes were done before he looked up and around. Despite how beautiful it was, Arthur found he couldn't really enjoy it. Today wasn't his day. Birthdays never went well. They went better when he wasn't doing anything. Or better yet, when he wasn't afflicted with some stupid power he didn't want or need.

He smoothed another and over his head, making sure everything was in place before looking back over to watch the other two.

Eames looked around, rubbing at his nose as he did so. It was beautiful, and he said as much, but just like Arthur, he couldn't seem to enjoy it. The whole thing was starting to make him uneasy. He just wanted to go back to lying under the trees with Arthur and for Ariadne to be normal, but it obviously wasn't to be.

Reaching out beside him, he caught a hold of Arthur's hand and laced their fingers together before replying to Ariadne. "I haven't felt an overwhelming urge to stop and count grains of rice either, and my bed is far from being covered in grave-dirt. Who knew?"

Ariadne sank slowly to stand on flat feet, looking at the pair of them. How could she have missed how obviously uncomfortable they were?

"You don't like it," she said flatly, the chiming of the spires dying away slowly and the light settling to a dull wash. The spires themselves began to evaporate into the air and the water soaked into the lakebed, the dry earth looking normal other than a slight tinge of purple. "Do you want to wake up now?"

Eames' words even stung Arthur. Enough so that Arthur's hand squeezed in the forger's. "Eames.."

The corners of Arthur's mouth drew down, "It's...it's not that we don't like it. There are just a few, well, variables that are off." His jaw tightened as he continued, "And I can't go back right now. I'm a little...worked up."

"Personally speaking, I don't like much of anything at the moment. And I don't want to wake up. If I wake up, I'll need to... I don't want to wake up," Eames said, then held his free hand out towards Ariadne. "Come here, sweetheart."

He frowned when she approached, but wouldn't take his hand, so he settled for cupping her cheek instead. "Aesthetically speaking, this place is beautiful, I promise you. But I am trying to deal with so much shit up top, I just... I can't. Not right now. I just want to spend time with the both of you and enjoy not wanting to tear you both to shreds."

Ariadne nodded and tried not to look as crestfallen as she felt. She'd wanted to show them what she could do and it had all been spoiled, somehow, and she couldn't help but feel like it was her fault from when she'd bounded out in fox-form and interrupted them. "Then we'll stay," she said, glancing from Eames to Arthur and then turning away.

As she turned the hillside was covered with new grass in a more natural green, dotted with actual lavendar plants here and there. The trees grew more realistic as well and the sky darkened to the particular shade of deep blue that appeared just as the sun slipped under the horizon. Ariadne walked back to the nearest tree and swung herself up to sit on its lowest branch, feet dangling.

Arthur gave Eames' hand one final squeeze before walking over near Ariadne, sitting down on the ground with his feet out in front of him. His hair had started to loosen around his face and the task of getting it to stick back up didn't seem as daunting as wanting to try and bring balance back to all the things that were very wrong.

Eames didn't follow straight away. He stood and watched as the dream shifted, then walked carefully towards the nearest clump of lavender. His mother had always insisted on having planters of the stuff on their patio, and he always associated the scent with being relaxed and being at home. Brushing his hand over the clump, he breathed in deeply and smiled slightly at the sense memory. Thank fuck something still worked.

He picked a couple of sprigs and then walked back over to where the other two were sitting. Twirling one stem between his thumb and forefinger, he dropped the other in Arthur's lap and then walked over to stand in front of Ariadne, where she was perched on her branch. Wordlessly, he handed her the lavender before stepping forward so that he was between her legs. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he shut his stupid vampire eyes and just held her close. There were more than enough people pissed off with him topside. He couldn't stand the thought that he'd somehow pissed off his girl as well.

Ariadne leaned forward and kissed the top of Eames's head - it was nice experiencing the height difference from the other side for once - and put her arms round his shoulders. One hand rubbed the back of his neck gently as she calmed down. She hadn't given much thought to what they were going through; she knew Eames was having a tough time with the compulsion to drink blood, and that Arthur was only now settling into his powers. But she'd been so overwhelmed with the joy and the grandeur of what she could do that she'd been more or less ignoring them.

"We'll come back," she told Eames, then looked over at Arthur. "And I'll try to spend a little more time back in reality." Not that it would be easy, when she had all of this power at her fingertips. But she had to try.

Every few moments you'd hear a distinct pop from the grass that Arthur was pulling up and ripping down the middle. Odd that taking something apart like this would distract him this much. It worked for him though, keeping his mind clear as much as possible of the things troubling him.

Taking two blades, Arthur began to tie them together as best he could before looking back up at Ariadne, "Please do, I think we already see how addictive this has been for you. Besides, I still need someone back home that I have to clean up after."
