Who: Sam Tyler and Donna Noble
Where: Starting at the library
When: Yesterday, right after Sam's first network post
Warnings: Not likely

Sam Tyler was no stranger to being thrust out of time, and drop kicked in to a whole other world. He remembered little of 1973 the first time he lived through it, at age 4. Sent back for whatever reason at age 37, he remembered nearly every excruciating detail. And all the good bits were stuck in his memory bank too, and because of that, he wanted to get back. "Why didn't I go back?" he mused, mutttering out loud to himself.

He sat on the steps outside the Colligo Library. The guards in their expressionless metal suits had escorted him out not ten minutes earlier. They'd given him a hand held computer, like nothing he'd ever seen before. He'd pushed a few buttons, and finally managed to contact the world. or at least, the citizens of Colligo.

Donna had been most helpful, she'd gone so far as to offer to help him get his bearings. He hated to admit he needed help, but he had no idea where he was, beyond the city named Colligo. He was grateful for her offer, and he was eager for her to arrive. He glanced down the side walk in both directions, looking for a ginger woman.

"I don't want to impose, but if you have time..." Sam nodded. He tried to absorb what she said about the Toclafane, but of course he had no idea what the metal death balls were called. he wasn't sorry he'd missed that event. Or the random marriages either. Neither of those things sounded like much fun.

"So what do I do now that I'm here? Is there a protocol?"

"No imposition, like I said, there's not much to do around here." It was awfully annoying. Then again, it wasn't like she had an abundance of people to hang out with. Maybe if it wasn't just her all the time, she wouldn't be so bored. What she really missed and wanted more than anything was her grandfather to show up, oddly enough.

"Um basically whatever you want. Some people get jobs, to break up the monotony. Plus to get money of course. You have a card there, it's got about a hundred dollars in it. This place is really America." Undoubtedly so. "It's like any other normal city though. There's a police station, you can probably get a job there. You know, I was thinking of maybe doing that myself. Joining up, I mean."

For lack of something better to do.

"Is there much crime?" Sam asked. He was used to working murder cases. He liked the thrill of the chase, following the trail of evidence to get the killer. There was nothing quite like the feeling of solving a crime, convicting a criminal. He found the other side of it less gratifying, like having to tell a mother that her child had been killed.

He hadn't seen much of the city at all, he hadn't ventured away from the library steps, but he had the distinct feeling there wasn't much crime to investigate. There was a distinct lack of vehicular traffic, which indicated a low need for traffic cops. Sam had a sudden pang of homesickness, for Hunt's Cortina.

"That's the actual downside to my plan, is that there really isn't. Besides the whole crazy stuff happening, generally it's quiet." Though she did know that people out there were stealing stuff but she kind of ignored that. Especially when it was all stealing from the pod people who were the inhabitants of this planet. She could guess why there wasn't a lot of crime, but it probably all boiled down to people not caring.

As they walked towards the buildings, she thought about it. "Though I guess it's a better paycheck then most, even if there isn't a lot to do." She shrugged some. "There's also a casino, run.. by a demon, I think. All of that supernatural stuff? It's real here, if you hadn't figured that out."

Sam wasn't sure what to think about what Donna was telling him. He took it all in, filed it away. Demons running casinos? How as that even possible? How was any of this even possible? If he could be here at all, why couldn't a demon run a casino? Maybe it was best to not question any of it.

"I guess with everything else, it's as possible as the rest." He shrugged. He felt like he was losing his mind. Instead of returning to 1973, he'd jumped in to some whacked out reality. Nothing made sense. He kind of had no choice but to go along with it.

She hated giving people that overwhelmed look on their face. Sam had that look now, and she felt a bit bad. But it was better to just get it over with. "It's best to just kind of accept that anything can happen." She probably shouldn't mention that she wasn't entirely human anymore. That might just make him more stressed out.

Donna hm'd a bit as they walked. "If you just kind of start accepting things, other things don't seem so bad." That was the only piece of advice she had. "Now there's three buildings everyone lives in. That's them." She pointed to them. "What building does your phone say you live in?"

"How might the phone tell me this?" Sam asked. He brought the phone out of his pocket and looked it over. It was way more sophisticated than anything he'd ever seen before. He didn't know what half the functions were, and he had no idea just what the device was truly capable of.

He held it out to Donna. "You can probably find information faster than I." She would find he was in building D, apartment 307. He looked up, at the roof line of the nearby buildings. He felt a little overwhelmed by it all.

"Ah it's just given you a text message or something, and shows you which building and room you're in." She glanced over at him and took the phone from him as long as he was all right with it. It only took her a couple of moments to go through it and find where he was supposed to be staying.

"Right, building D, apartment 307. I'm 3 floors above you in 606 actually. So we're building mates." She smiled and handed over the phone to him. Donna knew which building to take him to and where to go right away, so she started walking again. "I know it's a lot to get used to. Do you have any questions? Ask me anything you'd like."

Sam nodded. "Well, that seems to be good luck." At least showing him the way to the flat wouldn't be out of her way. Questions, questions. he had a million, running through his mind. The hard part was settling on one or two that needed to be asked, and answered.

"I'm guessing 'how do I get back' is a wasted breath?" He shook his head. He already knew there was no way out of the city, unless the powers that be decided to release him. "How about, what now? It's not the first time I've been thrust in to a strange place, so I imagine I can figure it out, but...Where do I go from here?"

Donna smiled a bit, just kind of glad to be out and helping someone. To meet new people. She'd been horribly lonely lately. Everyone seemed to have someone else to talk to. And not many people wanted to talk to her apparently. But that was because she had a loud, abrasive manner about her. At least most of the time.

"Yeah pretty much," she confirmed, nodding her head. "Well you can get a job, that's a good way to make money. Like I said, there's a police station here. Um.. I'd say just meet people? Try to treat this like you were on vacation. Except for where odd things happen to you."

"I can't say as I'm looking forward to that," Sam frowned. He looked down and sighed. "But I expect I'll make the most of it." He'd get a job, with the police, or perhaps something else. If he was going to think of it as a vacation, maybe he didn't want to go with the usual option. Maybe this was a chance to try something new.

"I'm sorry, if I could fix that for you somehow, I would. Just remember that it's always temporary. It never lasts more than a week or two." She wouldn't tell him that they weren't that bad, because people died sometimes. And sure they came back, but no one needed to be reminded of dying. "Lots of people have been here.. a while. They've made families here. It's odd, but possible. I was here once, then they sent me back home. When I was home, I didn't remember this place at all, but I came back a couple of months ago and suddenly I remembered everything. Just.. be careful, all right?"

Finally they were in the building, and headed up to Sam's floor. "They've probably put your key in the pocket that your phone was in."

Sam reached in to the pocket. He pulled out a key, and stared at it for a moment. He finally blinked, and refocused his eyes, looking at Donna. "Thank you." He offered a smile. "I'd invite you in, but..." He didn't even know what he'd find on the other side of the door. Judging from the over all feel of the place, he expected it was a bit bigger than the place he'd had in '73. But he also expected it to be empty.

Donna nodded her head a bit and smiled back. "Oh it's okay. You should have everything you need in there actually. Um, I'd warn you about getting a random roommate, but sometimes that's a hit or a miss. Just.. look out for yourself. And if you ever need anything, I'm in number 606 if you need anything. Or there's the message board thing." She really wished there was someway she could make him feel better, but everyone had to go through it. "Have a good night, Sam."

Sam tapped his phone. "Got it." He smiled. "Thank you Donna." He rocked on the balls of his feet, considering a good night kiss, for just a moment. he caught himself before he did it. That wasn't something he tended to do, and he wasn't even sure why he thought it.

"See you around," he added to try and mask his internal embarrassment.

"You're very welcome, Sam." Ah right, it was time for her to go. She turned around on her heels and gave a wave. "See you." Then she disappeared to go back to the elevator.
