Entry tags:ianto jones, jack harkness

WHO: Jack and Ianto
WHAT: They need to talk about a few things. Like how cutting off limbs is not an appropriate response to things he doesn't like.
WHEN: 5 March
WHERE: their flat
RATING/WARNINGS: High. Warning, what is likely to be VERY long tags
STATUS: incomplete

Unfortunately for Jack, there was only so long he could keep on running away from things. It was harder at night, but Jack was timing it so that he was getting home late at night once he knew Ianto was already asleep. Thank god he didn't actually have to sleep at night. Clock watching, Jack would slip out of bed before Ianto could rouse himself and leave to start his day.

It had been working for four days but Jack also knew he was living on borrowed time. He simply didn't want to discuss things with Ianto. His limbs had grown back just as he knew they would and so, as far as Jack was concerned, there was no need for him to have to go over and discuss things with Ianto.

It was over, the damned marriage plot was done, and they were still fine. Well... perhaps not completely fine. Jack had seen that flirting with Jenny and, well, while Jack couldn't say anything about the flirting without sounding like an utter hypocrite it didn't mean he had to like it. Or, well, as Jack always thought, Ianto would some day decide that he'd rather have someone not Jack. Immortality was always a tough pill to swallow and he wouldn't blame Ianto if he wanted out.

Perhaps there was more than one reason Jack didn't want to talk to Ianto.

It looked as if the light was off in their flat so Jack assumed Ianto was fast asleep. Jack tiptoed inside, careful not to wake him.

Ianto Jones was many things, but he wasn't stupid. He knew that Jack was avoiding him, the way he always did when there was something serious to discuss. He could have just told Jack that he was done with the bullshit, and he was sure nobody would blame him for it, but he had known what he was getting into when he'd started a relationship with Jack and he wasn't trying to change him. Besides, he was patient and he knew that sometimes it was simply a matter of waiting Jack out.

Because this wasn't something he was just going to let go of, no matter how much Jack might want him to. He loved Jack, and the other man's casual disregard for his own life was upsetting. Hacking off his limbs because he was upset about a situation he couldn't control was not okay and never would be, and Ianto was going to make him understand it. Even more unacceptable was the fact that Jack continued to hide rather than talk to him. As much as he wasn't going to push too hard on this, he was going to make it clear that in the future Jack would need to handle things like an adult. But he wasn't going to force this confrontation right away. He could be patient and give Jack a few days.

Of course, that didn't mean he was going to do this on Jack's terms. If they did this Jack's way, they would never talk about it. So finally, after a few days, he had gone to bed, but hadn't slept. He waited until Jack came in, lying on his side and letting the older man think he was asleep, and once Jack was settled, he spoke. "How much longer are you planning on avoiding me?" he asked softly. "I'm just curious, because I figure I ought to know how long my partner is willing to hide from me to escape having a conversation."

The word stupid, however, should have been Jack's middle name if he thought the whole 'running away and hiding because that's so much easier than talking and if I keep running maybe it will go away' would actually work. Really, Jack didn't have much of a learning curve when it came to logical and emotional things... or things having to do with a relationshp. For a man who was roughly two thousand years old (give or take a few years), he was surprisingly dense.

He also had the emotional range of a teaspoon but that was utterly beside the point, wasn't it?

Jack had hoped that three days without discussing things would mean that it was over and they wouldn't have to go over what Jack thought was a proper response to this damned place. Also, to be fair, he really couldn't explain why he objected so much to wearing a wedding ring bothered him so damned much. Well, he could but it was a reason that fit in with the large pile of things Jack never wanted to talk about.

He never wanted to marry again after the last time. Then, being forced into something he didn't want (both the notion of marriage and those he was married to) had pushed him over the edge.

Jack cursed under his breath when Ianto spoke. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you," Jack muttered, rolling onto his back and keeping away from Ianto. Inwardly he winced at the tone of voice. "I'm more than happy to talk to you about anything you want except what I"m sure you want to talk about. It's over and done with. If you want to talk about the weather or what you had for dinner, fine. If you want to talk about the last two weeks, I'm going out."
