She had no idea why the idea of tonight was making her nervous. She had spent a lot of time with James recently, after all they lived together, but this was official. This wasn't just them going out at the same time, or together for the sake of it. They had called it a date and that's what it was. And she never thought she’d go on a date with him so to think that it was happening seemed strange and exciting and scary. She wasn’t going to change her mind, though. Her feelings for him had changed a lot recently and she had spent a week or so getting the courage to ask him out so she wasn’t backing out now.

She didn’t get too dressed up, just a nice pair of skinny jeans and a pretty top. Wrapping a scarf around her neck and pulling on a jacket, she checked herself in the mirror before leaving. If they were going to be flying it was going to be a lot colder than it would have been if they just had a short distance to walk. Heading to the kitchen, she began to prepare the picnic she had suggested. It was only now that she thought about it that it seemed a rather romantic suggestion, but the more she thought on that the more worried she became.

She just had to make sure all the food was ready and able to be carried onto a broom. Maybe she could shrink it, or just make the handle of the bag longer so she could put it over her shoulder.

James had no idea why he was so nervous. It was Lily! He lived with her now, and she didn't seem to want to hex him or shout at him any more, which was excellent, and she'd made his broom for him, and she wasn't sticking his door shut either which was a bonus. Plus, there was the fact that they'd spent a fair bit of time just sitting together, listening to the audio books that Molly had got him, and more often than not, they ended up with their arms round each other as they learnt about what happened to their friends, and just how bloody cool their son was going to be, and you would have thought that knowing how your life was going to turn out would mean that nerves were a thing of the past. Hah.

Oddly, for James, nerves were a pretty new thing. He was used to being confident in everything he did, but this just... he had no idea. It was Lily! And she was great, he knew this! And now they were going out on a date. Bloody hell.

He'd been up on the roof of their building, having saved time by getting ready a while ago, and now he was making sure his broom was good. All the twigs were straightened, and there weren't any loose ones. The cushioning charms were working fine, too. He'd done every check he could think of, so that probably meant it was time to go get Lily.

Climbing onto the broom, he told himself to calm down and pretend it was like a Quidditch match. Easy! Then he took off and flew down to their balcony, tapping on the glass to let Lily know he was outside.

She had just finished extending inside her smaller bag so she could hold more food without having to carry something huge when she heard a knock at the window. She frowned, curious about just what was going on, before picking up the bag and turning to face the window. When she saw James on the balcony she couldn't help but laugh as she pulled the bag over her shoulders and walked over to open the door onto the balcony.

"Show off," she said, grinning as she shut the door behind her. It wasn't too bad actually, she had experienced colder nights, but she knew it was likely to get colder when they're flying.

But did that really matter? Not really. She didn't really care if it was going to be cold because they were doing this together, and surely the enjoyment would take away any type of chill. Plus she would have to hold onto him and she knew that was one way to keep warm.
