Who: Lily and Donna
What: Mother/Daughter time?
When: Before the argument on the network
Where: Their flat
Rating: Low
Status: In progress.

Lily brushed at her hair behind her ear as she watched the pillow she had floating in the air. She was bored, there wasn’t much she could do without school work to do. And she didn’t really have her group of friends here; yes she knew Sirius and James and Remus, but she wasn’t close to them. She didn’t really have anyone to talk to at all who she wasn’t at war with or was meant to hate. James being the main one. She wouldn’t admit to anyone that she was changing her mind, slowly, about the boy. He was still a pain in the arse but there was something about him. Something very...cute.

“Evans, he’s not cute,” she muttered quietly as she leaned more against the wall, lifting her feet to rest in front of her on the bed as the pillow raised higher in the air and began to change colour.

She had to keep busy. If she didn’t, she found herself finding some way to start an argument with James usually. It was as if she enjoyed it which she had a feeling she did, secretly. But she had to wonder just why her mind kept going back to him, her brow furrowing as she considered it. She shouldn’t, she really shouldn’t think so much on him. Something was happening and she had a feeling she knew what is was, but did not want to admit it to herself.

Lily smiled and watched as Donna left, making her own plate up before looking for something to drink. When she found some juice she liked, she poured it into a glass. Placing both on the table, she was just about to sit when Donna walked in. Smiling, she shook her head and sat but didn't start eating. She didn't want to start before Donna was ready.

"I really don't mind. I help mum whenever I'm home, it makes a difference to the months of it just appearing."

Well of course it didn't just appear, it was made as most food was but if anything started to run out it wouldn't. It would just fill up again. And as good as that could be at times, there was something about making it yourself or at least helping to make it.

It didn't take her very long to come back and get her cup of tea. She didn't know if Sherlock was actually coming to dinner, but it was there if he needed it. Somehow she figured he'd be compelled to join them, even if it was just because the rings on their fingers said so.

After getting her tea, and her food, she sat down to eat. "Oh right, food just appears at school, right?" It couldn't be said that Donna never read books. In fact she read Harry Potter quite a bit. Or at least saw the movies.

"Do you want to do something after this? Maybe just you and me if we can manage it without everyone getting hurt?"

Once Donna was sitting beside her she picked up her fork and tried a bit. it wasn't too bad actually, and if she had to say she was quite proud that what she added to the meal seemed okay. If it was bad then she would feel very guilty, and really want to fix it as soon as she could. Though she knew a few spells that would probably make anything edible but that seemed like cheating, especially when the other person was making their share without the use of magic.

"It's made but yeah, as soon as it starts to come close to being finished more appears. I try not to become too spoiled by that, my parents are good at making sure I'm not during holidays."

She missed school already, and was happy that when she arrived she had done so with her book bag around her shoulder. It made it easier for her to be able to at least keep up a little with school, or still read certain things for the joy of it. And she had managed to perfect some spells that she had struggled with before.

"I'd love to. Do you have anything in mind?"

It definitely wasn't all that bad at all. She actually liked it. Considering the fact that she had only made alfredo from scratch once or twice, it wasn't half bad. Maybe it wasn't like eating at a fancy restaurant, but it was still pretty good. "If I had food just appear in front of me, I'm sure I'd weigh a ton by the time I left," she said with a laugh.

"Food's not too bad, I hope. Maybe tomorrow we'll go out or something. This place is way too American though." Even if they were on a different planet, it wasn't like there was a fish and chips shop somewhere. Or maybe there was, and she didn't remember where it was.

Donna hm'd slightly. "We could go to a movie, or go bowling or I dunno, whatever you want." she didn't know what kids did these days.

"Some do," Lily said with a laugh. "But they are often the lot who didn't arrive all too slim. There's a lot of walking in Hogwarts, especially for a Prefect, so I guess I work it off easily."

Lily smiled at Donna, taking another bite of her dinner. Donna was right, it wasn't too bad. And she liked the idea of going out, it would be nice. It took her a moment to realise just what Donna meant by it being too American but after she thought about it, she realised.

"Yes it's very catered to the American style diners and café's, isn't it? And a movie or bowling would be nice, after, if you like. I don't mind either."

She wasn't really that fussy.

"Right, it's a pretty big place. I know all about places not looking big on the outside, but looking way bigger on the inside." Though to be honest, she did a whole lot of running, even if she wasn't the thinnest person on the planet. She did all right. "And about walking everywhere. You know, I always wondered. Besides like quidditch.. do they ever make you all do physical education? Like run around and stuff? Do laps?"

It felt American, at least to her. Though this place wasn't quite like any place she'd ever been. Maybe there were just too many Americans around as it were. "Right yeah, lots of American bars and cheeseburgers. Not that there's anything wrong with them but still. I've never seen a fish and chips shop."

Since she was almost done with dinner, she took a sip of her tea and sat back. "We can do both then. Let Mr. Sulky stay in his room."

"No we don't have that sort of class, though practicing duels can be difficult at times. Depends who your opponent is."

Lily laughed softly as the conversation about the available food continued. It was true, she had yet to see a proper fish and chip shop. Not that she had intentionally looked for one, but in her times out in the streets she had not seen one yet. Or at least not one as good as ones back home.

After taking another bite of her food she took a sip from her juice. Which was nearly sprayed out at Donna's comment though she managed to keep it all contained. Swallowing the liquid down, she laughed softly.

"Who needs men anyway? Especially men so grumpy."

"Well then you're really lucky. I hated that part of class more than anything." And she wasn't always the best student, but that was neither here nor there. "And if I had to duel someone, I'd probably just end up punching them." Sad, but true.

If Donna was a good cook, and could make all of those good things that the English was known for, she would have tried to open up her own shop. Sadly she was kind of rubbish at cooking most things. For now she'd stick to what she knew.

Oops, she hadn't meant for Lily to choke on her food, so she smiled a bit sheepishly. "I definitely don't need them for a thing. Heaven forbid he come out here and talk to us lowly people." She kind of rolled her eyes. "Let's leave the dishes for him to clean up, since he'll probably come out to eat when we're gone."

"If you're lucky enough to get close enough for physical contact. Usually in duels if you attempted to, you'd be knocked to your feet or worse pretty quickly."

Learning such ways of fighting seemed important at the moment, given the current situation at home. If they didn't know how to defend themselves, especially people like Lily, then they would find themselves in danger. And she had no doubt that many already had lost their lives because they weren't sure on how to fight well. She had always been determined to know everything that could make her a strong fighter.

"A man cleaning. A rare occurence." A lie, of course, she knew men who were happy to help in that way. Her father didn't mind helping. "But yes, let's go out and leave it for him."

"Yeah that's always the problem. Getting close enough to belt people one. Thankfully us muggles are pretty easy with that one." She'd hit plenty of people in her day. Which was still happening, because well, some people needed to be slapped, let's face it.

If she had a wand, Donna probably would have at first used to it to zap people she didn't like. Eventually she would have seen the error of her ways, especially if there was a war going on. But she would have been on the front lies, Donna didn't back down from anything. Redheads were always determined fighters, and it seemed like the two weren't any exception.

Donna laughed and got up to put their dishes in the sink. "Come on then, let's go paint the town."
