Gwen couldn’t handle being inside any longer than she had to,, plus Abigail had to get some fresh air for a little while every day. Arthur had pretty much forced sleep on her, even though she knew she needed it, and after she woke up she declared she was going for a walk and bundled Abigail up in her warmest coat before placing her in the pram they had. She had to admit, these prams were one of the best things she had when it came to Abi. It made it so much easier to get around without carrying her everywhere. Soon, she was walking to the park as her daughter snuffled and cooed in the warm safety of the pram.

Guinevere had found it hard to let her daughter go in every situation. She knew those around her could be trusted; Arthur, Morgana, Merlin, even Uther. And yet every time she let her go or let her out of her sight, her heart would clench and she wouldn’t be at peace. It didn’t matter how often she told herself she was being ridiculous, she couldn’t never settle without Abigail near. She just wanted to be the best mother she could be, and she wouldn’t be that if she wasn’t there for her.

Part of Gwen wondered, and part of her knew, where it came from. Growing up without a mother had been extremely hard and, even though her mother did not leave her life willingly, she occasionally found herself resenting her for leaving. For getting ill, and leaving her and Elyan and her father without the warm comfort of her. And she did not want Abigail to have moments of resentment. It would kill her. And then of course there was that other voice in her head; what if I lose her? She heard horror stories, women waking to find their babies lifeless. That thought alone terrified her to her core and made her blood run cold. She seemed to lose the most precious things to her a lot. Her mother, Elyan and her father. Morgana was taken from her, even if she had been returned she wasn’t fully herself. She wouldn’t be surprised if fate made her lose Merlin and Arthur too. Life just seemed to go that way.

But she wouldn’t let herself lose Abigail.

Stopping for a moment by the lake, she put the brakes on the pram and sat next to it on a bench, her fingers slowly running over the soft skin of her daughter’s cheek. Her eyes closed as she took a deep breath, trying to compose herself, before she met her daughter’s smile with one of her own.

"I know the feeling," Claire agreed, sitting down beside Gwen on the bench. "I hope you don't mind. I just need to get him settled." She wouldn't intrude for long, really she wouldn't, but Jack was getting fidgety which meant she had about, oh, three seconds or so to get him out of that stroller before he started crying and woke up his sister. Unbuckling him, she lifted him out and cradled him to her chest as she resettled herself on the bench. She glanced over to the woman beside her.

"You look about as tired as I feel," she commented sympathetically. Of course, every new mother looked tired. That was just part of it. But most new mothers didn't decide to take strolls in the park with their babies while completely exhausted, either. Then again, Claire supposed that neither she nor Gwen (nor Amy, Juno, and Dawn) would be very typical. Their uniqueness was, presumably, what had caused them to be brought to Colligo after all.

"No, go ahead."

She didn't mind, understood completely really. Though, saying that, Abigail wasn't the most fussy of children really. She fussed, of course she did as Arthur's personality had to get in there somewhere, but she was often content to just lay calmly. And Gwen would never complain over that. Not that it changed things with how she acted, how she was around her daughter.

"What exactly is this sleep thing you talk about?" she asked with a quiet laugh, glancing over at Claire. She didn't want to talk too loudly in case she prevented Claire doing what she was trying to. She really did not want to wake the baby even more, make him harder to settle. She knew the troubles to get a baby to calm after all.
