Who: John and Sherlock.
What: Even the mistletoe has the wrong idea.
Where: Coffee shop.
When: Afternoon.
Rating: PG. Alternately, A for Awkward works.
Status: In progress.

Sherlock and John had both been busy of late and, truth be told, John missed spending time with his friend. He felt a bit put out that Sherlock hadn't really needed his help on his current case, but he had to admit that Jade made a better date than he did. Besides, his girlfriend might have taken offence at him posing as Sherlock's date, if only because it would make it seem like he was stepping out on her. Still, he enjoyed working with Sherlock, and he missed it. Even with work at the clinic to keep him occupied, he found himself longing for the danger and the thrill of the chase that went along with helping on Sherlock's cases.

But now he was heading to a coffee shop with Sherlock, because there didn't seem to be anything better to do and they both wanted something to drink. He'd finished his shopping days ago, so it was rather entertaining to watch the last minute shoppers rushing about. "How did your date go?" he asked, which was more subtle than asking about the case where anyone could hear. It seemed like the best move, since Sherlock seemed to be at least trying to be discreet about this.

"You mean the covert observations disguised as a date?" Sherlock asked, taking a sip of his coffee as he glanced sideways at John. Sherlock knew what John meant. He'd meant date, but whether Sherlock had rephrased it simply for his own comfort or whether he was truly correcting John, even he wasn't entirely sure. Either way, he knew he felt a lot more comfortable when he thought about it in those terms. "Rather well. We made great strides in getting to the bottom of the situation," And he was certainly intending on taking the final few himself to solve this matter. "And the dinner was pleasant. Not at all poisoned."

He'd checked.

"How are you coping with cat fur all over your jumpers?" Sherlock asked, eyeing John for a long moment before reaching out to pluck a rather long ginger strand of hair off his shoulder. Holding it up to the light, Sherlock paused in his strides to examine the colour. "If you found a woman with a suitable hair colour, you could easily cheat without arousing suspicion."
