WHO: The Tenth Doctor and Freya
WHAT: A meeting, then who knows?
WHERE: The TARDIS, which is currently parked in the Park.
WHEN: Early this afternoon
RATING: PG
STATUS: Incomplete.

It was cold in the Park, and there weren't many people to chose from when the Doctor poked his head around the door of the TARDIS, breath misting before him, clutching one end of a length of rope. A moment later he was bounding over the icy grass, skidding to a halt in front of a stranger and forcing the rope into their hands. "Hello!" He grinned perkily at them, head cocking and eyes shining with some madly enthusiastic energy. "Just hold onto that for me, would you? Nice and tight. Lovely!"

Then he was off again, skipping away and leaving the newcomer standing holding the rope as he followed its length back towards the Police box, vanishing inside. There was a moment where the faint sound of running footsteps and crashing and beeping could be heard, then the blue box seemed to quake a little, and a bright light flashed from the open door as sparks flew somewhere deep inside. The Doctor's voice could be heard echoing out into the brisk afternoon air.

"Awwwwh!" He crooned, "There you go! Doesn't that feel better!?" A brief pause, and then his voice floated again from beyond the doorway. "You can let go!"

The Doctor leaned against the outside of the little blue box, smiling smugly to himself as her words froze and she gripped at the painted frame. He did love this part. It didn't ever get old. Over a thousand years traveling and he still enjoyed their expressions when they realized what they were seeing. He let her be silent for a moment, then finally straightened up, peering into his beautiful ship over the girl's shoulder.

"It's bigger on the inside," he prompted gently, a kind smile crossing his face. He turned his head a little so he could meet her eye, the kind smile blossoming a cheeky grin, obviously pleased with himself. "You can go inside. She won't bite."

Freya bit her lip, glancing over her shoulder at the madly grinning man. Crazy he might be, but she couldn't help feeling a little giddy with him. She had never seen magic used in quite this way. It fascinated and bewildered her in equal turns. She toyed with the ends of her hair stepping onto the ramp to let him in behind her.

"She?" She'd heard people gave names to things that weren't real, but it amused her to hear him refer to an inanimate object so fondly.

The Doctor pivoted around Freya to bound into the console room, spinning on his heel to smile down on the dark haired girl. "Oh!" He turned his head, glancing up at the glowering, towering pillar that pulsed and glowed in the centre of the room. "She's called the TARDIS. Time and Relative Dimensions in Space."

The Time Lord ran a hand tenderly over the console, smiling at the machine. "It's a spaceship. It travels between worlds." He got the feeling that wherever Freya was from, it wasn't somewhere that was used to people jumping out from the voids between space and time. He'd been a visitor to almost every timeframe imaginable - you learnt to pick up on these things.

"Anyway, this one's a she." He shot the girl a smile, before leaning back against the console, one ankle hooking around the other as he reclined. "Anyway, Freya," One eyebrow climbed cheekily. "Where are you from? Shut the door - letting the cold in!"

"I'm not from anywhere." Which was more the truth than anything. The Druids did not simply live in one place, one kingdom as a child they constantly traveled to allude Camelot's wrath and from then. Freya couldn't remember a night spent in the same place twice until she was captured. A small tremor caught her and she gripped the railing, forcing a smile from somewhere.

Camelot. She should say it. It was like a magic phrase, once spoken no one ever looked at you the same. Most looked at you like you were crazy and the others, they pried too deeply.

"She must be very fond of you too." She turned and shut the door and took a breath and a step forward.

"Nah," The Doctor agreed gently. "Me neither. Not any more. These days I tend to... travel around." He offered a small, slightly sad smile and fixed her with a suddenly intense stare.

Was she like him? Lost?

Although his thoughts were broken when she turned to close the door. The old Time Lord shrugged, lifting himself up to perch on the edge of the console. The background noise of the TARDIS increased, and he guiltily slipped off again. "We've been together a very long time," he explained. The ship, after all, was the one thing which had been constant.

"I did that too once." She wet her lips which never felt anything less than perpetually chapped. "Not very long ago, actually."

Freya shrugged and held her arms across her chest, wondering if she should ask a question in turn. She had never been very good at conversation. It wasn't that she didn't want to be, she just didn't get the chance.

"You said you were a physician, sir." She swallowed around a growing lump. "May I ask you something?"

The Doctor looked mildly interested. But, for the sake of honesty...

"I'm not actually a medical..." he started, then decided against going into the whole thing. He knew enough about medicine to pass as a real Doctor anyway. And he was very clever... Well, unless it turned out to be a mad question about human social etiquette and traditions, which Rose could tell anyone was his downfall. But they didn't make any sense.

"Go ahead." He slipped his hands into his pockets and stood with his legs a shoulders width apart, wobbling a little from one side to another as he waited. His face was set into a mildly curious expression.

"What do you know of enchantments, sir?"

More specifically, did he know how to break them. She couldn't dare ask that without it breaking her carefully held hope. If he knew nothing that was simply one more person to check off a growing list of those who couldn't help. It was that easy.

"Just 'Doctor'," the Doctor finally corrected. "Not 'Sir'. And I'm sorry, I don't really know much. I'm more into the... physics. Time and Space and matter and forces." He hesitated. Although it was true that when it came to magic he knew a little, mostly what he had worked out while he was here living in the company of Merlin and those Wizarding types from the Harry Potter books. "I know people who know more," he admitted. "Sorry."

"What's wrong?" he asked. The Doctor was never the type of mess around with fluffy questions. If he wanted to know something, he would just ask outright. It tended to get results. The Time Lord hopped down the steps, sitting at the far end of the ramp from Freya, fixing her with his sharp, curious gaze.

"Sorry, s-Doctor." Freya sighed and summoned a strained smile. "It's not important. I shouldn't have asked." She bounced on the balls of her feet and sought for something else to say and came up with nothing. There was an itch to seek out what was through the door beyond the, whatever the tall column thing was, but even that didn't nearly mask her own embarrassment and nerves.

"I should go."

"Oh!" The Doctor bounced to his feet, looking mildly disappointed. "Okay..." He slipped his hands into his pockets, still staring at her with that curious expression. There was something... strange about her. That was obvious. He couldn't tell what it was yet, but he decided to find out. Although not now. No good would come from rushing into things. Which wasn't a philosophy he usually went for, but there was a first time for everything.

"Unless you want a lift home?" he suddenly threw out, his friendly grin blossoming back over his pointed features. The Doctor shrugged, jerking his head back playfully in the direction of the main console. "She does more than just make a lot of noise and lights, you know. Although she does do those things very well."

"..." Freya blinked and opened her mouth to speak but no words left her. She never had someone offer to take her home quite like...that. But the lights were very nice, she supposed. Very blinky.

"Is it safe?"

"Oh yeeeees!" The Doctor insisted, before catching himself. "Well, usually. Well, here. She's fine here. Can't move very far." He smiled gently at her, then extended a hand to take hers and pull her gently up the ramp towards the main console. He found himself doing his best to dial down the exclamations and bouncing around when he was in Freya's company. She seemed... shy. Quiet. Bless her.

"Which flat is yours?" he asked, releasing her hand and finding a screen that was suspended above them, tugging it down so it was at his eye level. Green text swirled over the screen in circles, pulsing smoothly with the gentle sound of the TARDIS.

"Uh, I-" Freya tried to remember for certain. No one had ever told her which room was hers after showing her to it. She just lived there. Moved day and night from it and to it and never once asked. She hadn't needed to.

She never thought to ask.

"I'm not sure." She rubbed her arms and stared at the screen that was the oddest shade of green. "The one with the missing roof?"

"Building C," The Doctor smiled. "I can drop you outside. Then at least you'll miss most of the cold. Right. Hold on to something!"

He bounced around the console for a moment, spinning dials, pulling levers and hitting buttons until there was a rumble from somewhere deep in the ship and the pulsing noise of the TARDIS increased. The Doctors long fingers clutched around the edge of the console to keep his balance, head thrown up to watch the ship as the centre column glowed more intensely. It lasted a good minute, then suddenly, with a final violent lurch, it was over. A grin split the Doctors face happily.

"There we gooo!" he announced, turning back to Freya with what was supposed to be a reassuring grin and then skipping off towards the door. "Here we are," he pushed the door open, revealing the front door to Building C a few feet away.

Freya immediately grabbed onto the nearest thing to her. Her fingers clutching around metal as things began to shake and whir and beep and make a cataclysmic amount of noise. The floor vibrated. The air buzzed and the tiny hairs on her arms stood up and she felt herself laughing as they were jostled.

She let go and watched as the Doctor skipped back to the door and pushed it open, gesturing for her to go ahead and see for herself. She made it as far as the top of the ramp, a disbelieving smile on her face.

"Sir, this must be magic."

Finally, a genuine smile on the girls face as she gazed out at her building. The tenth Doctor smiled giddily back, leaning against the open doorway, a stiff winter breeze coming through and stirring his mop of chestnut hair. "Nah, just science. Time Lord technology. She can travel through time as well, but that's a no-no here." He hesitated, an expression on his face saying he'd really like to explain exactly how clever his ship was, but realizing it'd probably go right over the newcomers head.

"I'm a Time Lord," he added. "Not human. Hello!" He hesitated, thinking. She seemed to turn to magic as means of explanation, and there were only a few groups of people here who seemed to do that. And he couldn't remember a Freya in those books... "Do you know Merlin?" he asked.
