who: AU!Merlin & Arthur
where: The park.
when: Sunday Afternoon
what: Old Merlin is bored and practicing embroidery. Arthur will likely come round and mock him.
status: closed, incomplete.

Merlin sat in the park enjoying his little break in Colligo. Better then the rain soaked camp he'd been tied up in before hand, but he supposed that's what he deserved for letting himself get kidnapped. It was a nice escape from the incredibly dull council meetings too. Who knew Kings had to put up with so much whining from every bitter and spoiled noble in the entire kingdom? It almost made him long for the days where they could just leave and go hunting. Almost.

At any rate, he was keeping busy here. He discovered he still had a job to do, running the little magic shop. He even found his old journal of tried magic, things he had attempted when he was younger, spells he'd shared with Morgana when they'd been fighting, silly enchantments that did absolutely nothing practical...That little book was flipped open beside him now, a pen going at it, taking notes as Merlin spoke. He'd help his younger self out. Enchantments to use on Sirius when they got back up to their pranks. Healing potions and salves he'd actually be able to manage since he was useless at healing magic. Other little things that entertained Merlin.

Of course, while the pen was taking notes for him, Merlin was also practicing his sewing. Yes, sewing - more like embroidery actually, since he could already manage a simple stitch. Gwen had been attempting to teach him back home because he was forever making a mess of his clothes, as was Arthur, with the trouble they still got up to on a regular basis. (Which he sort of resented, thank you. He was supposed to make Arthur king, and that should've ended the constant attack of monsters and sorcerers, right? Not really.) And he liked to be able to mend things himself. Court Sorcerer may entitle him to a servant, but he couldn't be bothered. Arthur never took another one, and Merlin had an apprentice who could manage little things for him. He was perfectly capable of mending his own clothes though thanks. Even if Arthur had complained for years that his stitches were always crooked. He was managing it quite well now actually. He could do fancy little stitches around the hems, and make tiny stitches that you could barely see. He had a red polo shirt in hand now, sewing Arthur's crest onto the breast pocket, and the gold threaded dragon didn't even look that bad. Gwen would be so proud. Of course, Arthur would mock them, the Queen and Sorcerer fussing over embroidery, but it was actually pleasant enough busy work when he wasn't stabbing himself with the needle.

"How can you tell?" Arthur asked, his grin remained unsuppressed. He couldn't help it. Perhaps he was proud, despite having no immediate idea how he managed to raise Abigail so well. There was she. Gorgeous, kind, smart, his. He would never take it for granted. "I'm not even in it."
