WHO: Noah and Kate Bennet.
WHAT: Reunion time.
WHEN: Soon after this.
WHERE: Kate's apartment.
RATING: TBD.
STATUS: In progress.

After everything he had seen, both at home and in this place, Noah Bennet had thought he could handle anything. The idea that something would truly faze him was almost laughable. But then he'd never counted on his wife showing up. Not Sandra, who he had loved but had a strained and uncomfortable marriage with, but Kate. Kate, the first woman he had ever loved and the woman whose death had set him on a path that completely changed him as a person. Kate, who was pregnant with his child. He was completely at a loss with it all. On the one hand, he was happy. He'd never stopped loving Kate, never stopped mourning her death and feeling guilty that he couldn't stop it. But he wasn't the man she had married, almost a quarter of a century older and changed beyond what he could tell her, and he wasn't sure he could take it if she decided she couldn't love the man he had become.

Still, the was standing outside her door, after taking time to compose himself, his hand raised to knock. He stood there, frozen by nervous tension, then finally rapped his knuckled against the door. No going back now, though he was struck with the sudden urge to just leave before he could mess this up. But he'd never been the kind of man to choose flight over fight, and he was willing to fight for Kate, even if that meant fighting his own insecurities.

Sylar hadn't been gone for very long when another knock sounded at Kate's door. She paused, glancing up from the dishes she'd been washing in an effort to burn off some nervous energy. Her brow furrowed and she turned off the water. Wiping her hands on a dish towel, she made her way to the foyer. Peering out the peephole, she paused then opened the door enough to look out into the hallway.

It was Noah. He was older, that much was obvious, but it was him. Instantly Kate opened the door the rest of the way. Then she hesitated. What if too much time had passed? What if this turned out to be a mistake? Yes, she knew she would always love her husband, but what if they simply couldn't be together after everything that had happened?

There was only one way to find out, she decided. Stepping forward, she wrapped her arms around him in a hug. He still felt like Noah. She sighed softly and clung to him for a moment before slowly stepping back so he could get inside the apartment.

"I had a visitor just a little while ago," she said, wanting to get that out of the way first.

It was her. Seeing her in person was so much different than talking to her on a message board, and Noah felt nervous energy building inside of him. Seeing her again was so much more than he had anticipated and it felt so wrong. This was more than he deserved, and he couldn't help but feel like it was a trick. He was imagining it or going crazy or...something, because things like this didn't happen to men like him. He knew he ought to leave before the illusion faded away and reality set in.

Any hesitation Noah had felt, any insecurities he'd had, they faded when he felt Kate wrapped her arms around him. He immediately hugged her back, sighing in relief. Being able to physically feel her in his arms made this real in a way it hadn't been before. He knew it was her, knew it with every fiber of his being. He hugged her tightly and closed his eyes, not wanting to let go. Finally though, he let go of her and stepped into the apartment.

"I've missed you," he told her. "So much. There hasn't been a day that's gone by that I didn't wish I could see you again."

He stopped as she mentioned her visitor. He knew instantly who it had been, but for once he didn't immediately run off in a fit of rage. "Sylar," he said quietly. "Are you all right, Kate? Did he do anything to you?"

Based on what Kate had been told, both by Noah himself as well as Sylar, she had half-expected him to turn right around and leave with a vow to end the killer's life and a promise to return. Not that she would have stood idly by and just let that happen, but it didn't happen and for that she was glad. She also wasted no time in assuring him that she was perfectly fine.

"He made me some tea and stir-fry, and we talked." She shook her head a bit with a slightly puzzled frown. "I think he mostly just wanted to make sure that I knew the truth about you." She shrugged a bit then flashed Noah a smile. He looked so very different yet still somehow the same. It took some getting used to.

"When did you start needing glasses?"

Had she asked the question to anyone else, Kate probably would have apologized. With Noah, she simply linked her arm with his and led him to the couch to sit, gazing up at him as though trying to re-memorize everything about him.
