WHO: Illyria & OPEN TO MULTIPLE THREADS
WHERE: Outside the library.
WHEN: Evening, after Cordelia's vision.
RATING: PG-ish?
STATUS: In progress...

Illyria was back. After being confused by the sight of another with Winifred Burkle's face and wandering around in the guise of that shell she was fully convinced she still was when she got like that, she was back and she was angry.

This place was an abomination, a mockery. It existed to hold it's jaws open, baring it's teeth in threat as if it wanted a confrontation, but it would lurch back just enough so you couldn't touch it whenever you tried to do so. Illyria hated that. She didn't want to be here. Wesley was corporeal he, yes, but that wasn't the way things were supposed to be. He was dead, he'd died in her arms. She remembered it vividly and it made emotion that was not hers, that she both wanted and didn't ripple through her— or perhaps it was the other thing, that which lingered on the edge. It was something... Illyria couldn't tell and hadn't spoken up to Wesley about it due to her own dubiousness towards her own perceptions which were often neither here nor there and the god-king wasn't ready to admit to that yet. (Nevermind what the seer saw, visions were not always accurate; she didn't trust half-truths— which was a bit hypocritical, given that she was the embodiment of such.) It was a weakness and the Lord of Beverly Hills was not weak.

Standing outside the library, Illyria threw her hand out and opened a portal, stepping through it and vanishing into it's abyss as the rip closed behind her. Mere moments later, she was walking out of the library, irritation clear on her face and a chunk of metal that belonged on the breast plate of one of the guards fisted in her hand, crumpled as if it were a flimsy sheet of aluminum. She threw it to the ground and did not bother to watch as it bounced off the pavement and came to rest a few feet away from her.

"This will not do."

Illyria turned her head sharply on the person who spoke to her, irritated and not in the mood to indulge the frivolous needs of the hairless apes who found such appeal in the social interactions that revolved around conversation that rarely held any salience. She was prepared to speak harshly to the one who interrupted her attempt at escape, she was not prepared, however, for the sight which greeted her.

Her inhuman blue eyes went wide and the anger melted as the god-king took a small step towards her. "Such incandescence."

Great. Someone else who could tell what she was. Dawn resisted rolling her eyes at the words, barely, but her own gaze widened a little as she saw just how far the blue extended on the woman's face. The woman looked an awful like...

"Fred?" It was her, but it wasn't her. Her eyes looked like the Fremen from that Dune movie Xander had once made her watch, and her hair and forehead were the same cerulean shade. Since the woman took a small step towards her, Dawn took a small, hesitant step back.

That snapped Illyria out of it and she took a step back to where she had originally been standing before she'd moved forward. For a moment, just a moment, she looked almost sad to say what she did next, but that was gone nearly as soon as it appeared. "No," she answered. "I am not Winifred Burkle. She is my shell. I am Illyria and you are...something ancient. Powerful. You wear a shell, as well?"

Dawn blinked at her words. Fred was her shell? That didn't make sense, because she'd met Fred on the boards. Unless they were both there, the same as that doctor lady who looked like Fred. Weird.

"I...." She swallowed hard, not knowing really how to respond, or if she should. "I'm Dawn. I'm human." Now, anyway. "What you're...seeing, I guess..is what I used to be. Before I was turned into a human." She'd really thought she was over the identity crisis, but this was proving difficult. "And, yeah, I'm ancient. Nearly as old as time, I guess." A small shrug was given. "But physically, I'm almost 17 years old." Why was she telling this lady this? It made no sense, but...well, Illyria did look rather dangerous and creepy and Dawn figured the truth would probably keep her from attacking. Hopefully.

"On the outside, perhaps, but inside you are far more than you give yourself credit for. Why do you deny it?"

Denial of power, hiding it from the rest of the world...such did not make sense to a being whose entire life before she existed within Winifred Burkle's shell was built around that very principal. It was about who had the power and who used it and let others know it was there.

"It has been a long time since I have met one who predates me."

"I...don't deny it. But I'm not even really the Key anymore. I'm just a girl." She didn't even realize that she'd let slip what she was. She bit her lip absently, watching Illyria very carefully. When she said she was older than her, Dawn blinked.

"Predates you? So..that doesn't happen often? What...what are you?"

Illyria supposed she would never fully understand the desire to be 'just' something. She'd heard the phrase often, back in hell. 'Just a girl,' 'just a lawyer,' 'just a teacher,' 'just a kid'... All these people who were 'just' things who they believed didn't fit into the pictures others had decided they were pieces of, even if their pieces did fit.

"I am what Wesley's books call an 'Old One'."

Dawn frowned a little, studying her for a moment. Since she hadn't tried to attack or anything, the teen relaxed a little, but only a little. She still didn't know if Illyria was a threat or not.

"What's an Old One?" She sure didn't look old.
