WHO: Eve & OPEN TO ANYONE
WHERE: a 24-hour restaurant
WHEN: the middle of the night
RATING: PG-ish?
STATUS: in progress...

It was harder, this time around, not to say anything. Before, she only had to keep some things to herself and was able to flaunt others as freely as she pleased; namely the fact of what she was and what she was intended to do. Here, she couldn't do that. The Collector had brought her into Colligo to be his eyes and ears in a more direct way that went beyond that of his ability to monitor through the systems on his ship in orbit of the planet that housed his great city. She mingled, she watched and she reported and while she felt it had given her a new semblance of purpose in life after being so lost and alone and directionless, she couldn't help but still feel...empty.

He pointed this out, of course, telling her not to dwell and often, questioned the Senior Partners' decision in making her better able to feel and understand and behave like a human in a way that ranged from appearance to social interactions and bonds. Eve liked who she was, especially now that The Collector had returned her immortality to her. That paralyzing fear of knowing that you'd age and one day, die no longer woke her up at night, though she couldn't honestly say she slept soundly in this city.

That was exactly why Eve was out and about, sitting in the back corner of a twenty-four hour restaurant with a plate of barely touched pancakes before her that had been sitting there for so long, they'd gone soggy from all the syrup.

"Is this all there is to existing?" She questioned of no-one in particular, poking at the syrup-soaked pancakes with the prongs of her fork.

Bloody. That made her flashback to watching her former boss, the last one she'd had before she'd signed away her immortality and rights to the duties of liaison to Hamilton. Angel. ...the only boss she'd had, actually, as she hadn't been the liaison to the last set of individuals in charge. They all got their own person, someone whom the Senior Partners felt would best suit them. How they figured she was a good match for Angel was beyond her when a good part of her couldn't stand the vampire. That, of course, clashed with the larger part of her that still felt intensely loyal to him to the point where she'd helped him, even though he didn't really deserve her help. And in the end, what had that gotten her? A place alone in the world without even Lindsey for company. He'd had her lover killed and that had destroyed a part of her person. Yet, she still felt loyalty for the vampire, even though hated him for what he'd done. What a walking contradiction she was.

She tore herself out of her thoughts and focused on what Charlie was saying and nodded in agreement. "Medium sounds good."

Charlie gave a nod and wrote up the ticket on her way to the kitchen. As the cook began to prepare the meal, she busied herself with a few of her other tasks. Filling the salt and pepper shakers, wiping down some more tables, sweeping up a pile of spilled french fries behind the counter. She kept an eye on Eve as she worked, not wanting to crowd the woman but also wanting to make sure she didn't need anything. Within a few minutes the steak was ready and Charlie took the plate to her, setting it down in front of her with a smile that was a bit strained at the edges due to memories she couldn't forget no matter how hard she tried.

She remembered the last time she'd served a steak to a patron in a mostly empty diner. An old woman who had turned out to be possessed by an angel, sent to kill her then unborn son. The turning point in Charlie's life, obviously, and one she tried not to dwell on very much. Such as now.

Forcing the memories into the back of her mind, the young woman hefted the pitcher of water she held in her other hand and topped off the glass of water. "Here you go," she exclaimed. "I hope you enjoy and if you need anything else, you just let me know, alright?"
