"We should paint the nursery purple," Brooke said as she stepped into the building.

She was so excited. A little girl. She would have been really happy to have a boy, too. Just knowing that the baby was okay, being able to plan for it... It was a hundred times more real.

Something caught her eye down the hallway. She grinned and waved.

"Penny, hey!" she called. She walked over to her, still holding Lucas' hand. "How have you been?"

"Oh, sorry, this is Lucas. Lucas, this is Penny," she said.

Brooke smiled softly. "You like him a lot, don't you?" she asked.

She bit her lip. "When I was dating Lucas the first time, it was so scary. I'd had a ton of guys, but I'd never cared about them like I cared about him. And ... He made a mistake. A big one, one that really really hurt me."

"But it was a mistake, and I made stupid mistakes too, and we got through them. It's never easy, letting someone in. But it can be worth it, too."

"I don't know, maybe you should talk to him? I mean, he gets some points for telling you and being honest eventually, right?"

Brooke nodded.

"We are," she said. "So happy. We've hurt each other, and I
spent longer than I should have not trusting him because of that one mistake he made."

"I'm not saying you should forgive him right away, or even at all," she added. "But if he wants a second chance, maybe it's worth giving it a try."

She reached out and patted her knee. "It'll be okay," she said, reassuringly. "Even if things don't work out with Billy, there's someone out there for you."
