Who: Leah Clearwater and Eliot Spencer
What: Eliot sees Leah defending a kid
When: Early Evening
Where: Outside a Coffee shop
Rating: TBA
Status: Closed/Incomplete

Leah had decided to go out for some coffee after work one night. She was standing in line behind a very large man and his son looking bored as always. Leah couldn't do anything without being bored these days. Maybe a normal life wasn't going to be the best thing for her anymore. She was already way past that. She was thinking about what she could do in this place that would help. She hadn't noticed the too sweet smell of any vampires around, so she wasn't sure how to make herself useful in this place.

As she was lost in thought about that, she was snapped back into reality by the man in front of her pulling his son up in the line just a little to roughly. That put up a red flag in her head. Someone who does that to their kid in public, usually does much worse things to them in private, so she decided to keep an eye on them. She got out of line after the two of them had left the store and followed them silently and unseen. It helped to have the wolf reflexes on her side for things like this, because they were there even when she was in human form. Then she saw what she had hoped would happen. The man had been fussing at the boy since they left the shop and when they had reached a secluded spot in an alley not too far from it, he twisted the boy's arm to the point that Leah had heard the snap before she was able to get there. Right after that she was on the man's back pulling him away from the boy, but he turned around and pushed her up against a wall. He punched her as hard as he could for interfereing but it didn't take much effort on her part after that to knock him out. After she had dealt with him, she turned to the boy.

"Are you ok? Let's get you to the hospital."

Newly arrived tot his crazy place, Eliot wasn't sure what to do with himself. He had walked to the housing unit, but he hadn't gone inside. He just wasn't sure what to make of it, and until he found Nate or Sophie, Parker, or Hardison, he wasn't having any part of it.

He heard the scuffle in the alley, and carefully looked in. He was surprised by what he saw; the girl had the man out of commission before he even got there. Something about a woman fighting...but he wasn't going to go there, right then.

"How bad is he hurt?" Eliot asked, over looking the woman's fighting skills for the moment. He'd get back tot hat, once he found out about the kid. Eliot did not look kindly on child abusers, and the man who was on the ground earned nothing more than a passing glance, to make sure he was down.

Leah only turned away from the boy to step in front of him in a very protective stance, when she heard the new man coming up to them, but when he asked about the boy, she relaxed a little, but still kept an eye on him, to make sure he wasn't a threat.

She turned back to the boy and took his arm in her hands as gently as she could trying to see how many places it was broken in, but in the process she noticed other bruises on the boy's neck and arms. "The broken arm is the worst I see, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few ribs broken too." Then she took the boy's other hand and started leading him out of the alley, not really caring about the other man. If he was going to help, he could help, but if not, she was going to make sure he got to the hospital so that arm got set correctly.

Eliot wasn't so sure about leaving the man laying unconscious in the alley. He'd rather have him locked up, but he really didn't know where he was, or how he'd gotten there, and the boy's safety was more important. "You the mother?" Hey, how was he supposed to know? She didn't seem to have any connection to the man or the boy, but looks could be deceiving.

Eliot fell in to step next to her, as she led the boy from the alley. The child looked shell shocked, a look Eliot knew all too well. He offered a slight smile, meant to be comforting.

Leah heard him ask if she was the mother and she couldn't help to let the sarcasm fall through. She let out an exasperated sigh that sounded a bit like the start of a laugh, then started speaking to the man who was keeping pace with her pretty well. "Um, no. If I was I would have had him at 14. Do I look like that kind of girl?"

Eliot put his hands up. "Hey, you never know. It was an innocent question." He let his hands fall back to his sides. He didn't want to spook the kid. "You have a plan then?" He asked, offering another smile tot he boy, and earning a tentative smile in return. He'd ask the woman what she intended to do about the man she'd downed in the alley, but he didn't want to bring that subject up in front of the boy.

She rolled her eyes at the man. Even in this type of situation, she couldn't help but be the snarky, sarcastic girl she always is. She tried to keep it in check, though, for the sake of the boy. He probably wouldn't be used to the way she spoke to people, especially people who seemed to be telling her what to do. "The plan? To get him to the hospital." She had thought of the man in the alley, but she really didnt' think it would be a problem. If he came after her, she'd put him out again, and if he came after the boy, she'd still put him out again.

"You think?" Eliot rolled his eyes. "I meant long term." The kid wasn't a puppy to be taken home, given food and water and plenty of exercise.

"Hey, there. What's your name?" Eliot asked the boy. He detested having nothing but boy to fall back on. He liked names, names were personal, even if they weren't true names.

She looked over at the man walking with them. She really didn't know what to do. She'd never been in a situation like that before. All she knew was that she had to get him away from his father. Someone who would break a kid's arm and not even blink is not a man to have custody of anyone, and shouldn't even be around kids to begin with. They turned the corner, and the hospital was accross the street. She watched as the boy sort of hid behind her away from the man asking his name, but that was understandable with the only man he had really known, and he told him his name anyway, "Jake." It was so soft, Leah would be surprised if the man heard it, but she could hear it clearly because of the wolf in her.

She looked at Eliot as they walked into the hospital and made sure Jake got to a doctor, "Ok, honesty time. Long term plan? Not sure. I was just focused on getting him outta there."

"Yeah. Nice show, by the way." He nodded, his attention turning to Jake. He had been a kid once. he remembered too well how scary things could be when no one told you what was going on.

"Hey Jake. I'm Eliot. We're going to get you to a doctor, okay? They'll probably put a cast on your arm, so it'll heal. And then you'll feel a lot better. Okay?"

She just stared at the man who called himself Eliot for a bit, even after he had leaned down to Jake. Nice Show? What the hell is he talking about? She put it aside, though, for Jake. It was times like this she was thankful she was a wolf. She had gotten a little bruised black when Jake's father had punched her, but it was already healed. She hated hospitals, and being a wolf, she never needed them. She put on a smile and kneeled down next to Jake, so he would know she was there. "And I'm Leah. Don't worry, everything's gonna be okay."

Jake just nodded at the two of them, his eyes big and round, trusting as only a child could trust. Eliot smiled and stood back up, to lead the way into the hospital.

Once the doctor took Jake back, he turned his focus on Leah. "So, you want to tell me what was going on back there? That was a pretty big guy you took out." Eliot could have done it, sure. He could have taken that guy out with one hand tied behind his back.

So that was what he was talking about when he said, nice show. Of course that was what it was. She should have known she couldn't get away with beating up a guy that size and having someone see it happen. She had just hoped that he would let it go. The worry ran from her face and she replaced it with a dry look that was usually on her face. She didn't want to show any surprise that what she had done was out of the ordinary either.

"What? Surprised a girl like me can take out a guy, that it?" The sarcasm so clear in her voice.

"Yeah, actually I am." Eliot nodded. "But ti's cool. I like a girl who can hold her own." He shrugged. "So this kid, Jake. What now? You planning to have the hospital call Children's Services?" There might have been a sneer in his voice, a growl punctuating the words. Eliot did not care for the way the system handled most children who fell into their grasp.

Leah sighed and rolled her eyes at his admission of surprise that she could do that and then her brow furrowed at his other statement about her. She took a step back from Eliot, watching the door that they had taken Jake through. She wanted to make sure he was okay. She didn't know what to do and she could hear the obvious disdain in Eliot's voice about calling child services. "Well, what else can we do? Send him back to his dad?" She had never really had to deal with something like this before, but she was doing her best.

"No." The one word was full of venom. "I'll take him home with me, if I have to." He shook his head. "He's not going back to that bastard." Eliot had seen enough bruises to know home was not a safe place for the boy.

She could hear how he felt about sending him home with his dad. She maneuvered herself back into Eliot's eyeline so she could look him in the eye. She shouldn't have said it like that, but she had a way of putting her foot in her mouth sometimes. She wanted to show him she would never do that. "No, he's not. I won't let him, but I don't know what else to do than call Child services." That was the truth. "You say you'll take him home with you, but he's not a puppy. How long have you been here anyway?"

"You ever done time in Children's Services?" Eliot glanced away, when he said the words. "It's not any better than what he's been dealing with, I can tell you that much." He knew from personal experience.

"We shouldn't have left the bastard there. You stay with the kid. I'll go have a word with dear old dad. I'll get him to name me an uncle, give me guardianship." He had every faith he could do it too.

He failed to answer her question because he felt it irrelevant, and he still didn't believe all the rumblings about a whole different plane of existance and alternate universes and whatever.

Leah looked down after he spoke about child services. "No, I haven't." It was soft, and a lot more vulnerable than her voice usually gets, but she didn't want to take Jake out of one bad situation to put him in another. Then when she heard about this so called conversation he would have with his father, her face shot back up to be looking him in the eye again.

"What makes you so sure you'll be able to get him to say that. He punched me in the face as hard as he could when I told him I was taking him to the Hospital." It was true, though there wasn't any proof of it on her face anymore.

"Because that's what I do." Okay, not quite. But it was something he could do, would do. "Stay here. I'll meet you back here in half an hour." Chances were the doctor wouldn't even be done with the boy, by then.

He stood, started for the door. He looked back at her and frowned. "Guess he missed, when he tried to hit you." He nodded, seeing no bruising at all on her face.

Leah lifted her eyebrows in a quetioning expression as he said that was what he did. She wanted to see how this was done, or even if he could do it. Her general opinion of people, though, was that they could maybe do about half of what they said they could. "Ok, I'll see you in a half hour."

She just watched as he took the steps toward the door, but didn't answer his words about Jake's father missing. She only turned to walk toward the nurse's station. He didn't have to know how fast she really healed just yet, but if he had seen her face before she turned, it could have shown him an expression that wasn't false or even sarcastic.

Eliot left the hospital and returned, as promised, exactly half an hour later. He had a piece of paper written in a sloppy hand writing, naming him temporary guardian of the boy. Of course, getting that to hold up in a court was a whole other ball game, and without the team to help pull it off, Eliot wasn't sure how he'd make it happen, especially if the dad skipped out.

He held the paper up. "I'm not letting this kid go in the system." He said, anger and venom in his words.

Leah spun around when she heard him coming back into the hospital lobby and very dryly nodded at his words. If he was able to get Jake's father to actually write that down on a piece of paper, he had to be pretty convincing, or pretty violent. She walked over to him, put her hand on his shoulder calmly, and obviously asking him to calm down. If he wanted to keep Jake out of the system, they would find out how. "Ok, we won't let him be put into the system."

Leah couldn't help but look back to the door they had taken Jake through when he asked if she had seen the doctor yet. "They haven't brought Jake back out yet. I was just about to bust through the doors to see what was going on."

"Then that's what we should do," Eliot stated. He wasn't comfortable sitting around, waiting. Unless he was working a con, patience was not Eliot's strongest point. "What the hell are they doing with him back there?" He shook his head, and moved toward the doors that led to the back, where they had taken Jake.
