Merlin knocked absently on the door to Conner's room, not sure what to expect. He couldn't have possibly gotten a party together that fast, could he? He hadn't thought his birthday was that big a deal, he'd only mentioned it cause -- well, he supposed it made him miss home, and he'd thought talking with the others would cheer him up. Apparently a birthday here was a bit more of a celebration then he was used to. All his mother could really afford was a little gift and a nice dinner. It would be nice to see Conner too, since he hadn't seen him since their meeting over hot chocolate. Next year, if they were still here, he would think about a party even if it did seem a little -- odd to have a party celebrating himself. That sounded like something Arthur or Morgana might get back home but not him.

"Conner?" He had gotten off work a little while ago and had a little blue nintendo DSi, and a game or two in a little bag that he'd just gotten himself. Maybe after they hung out he would go get some dinner...Possibly see if Lancelot wanted to go get something with him because they hadn't really spoken about what happened on Christmas, and Merlin hadn't stopped thinking about it.

Conner grinned. "Blow it out. Or your wish won't come true." It was stupid. He knew that. But it was tradition. It was kind of a nice thought, anyway. The possibility that you might actually get what you want. "It's a thing we do. I'm not sure how it started, but it's a nice idea." He lifted the cake up just a wee bit more so that Merlin could blow out the candle.

Next! The gift. Followed by copious amounts of cake and ice cream. And possibly one other surprise. Who knew?

Oh, the candle had to do with the wish that made -- no, that didn't really make sense, but he would go with it. Merlin thought of his wish again and blew out the candle. It didn't really matter how it started or why, he was just more entertained that Conner liked it so much. He didn't really think wishes would work, but it was a nice idea.

"Wish made!" He grinned. Merlin enjoyed the small cake, if that was all he got it would be a fantastic surprise.

Conner set the cake down and let Merlin dig in while he glanced around the room for the last minute gift. "So, it's a stupid gift," he said with a chuckle, "but I figured any present is a good present at this point." He set the box down onto the table and then had a seat in front of Merlin.

Inside was a snow globe, with a bearded man, in a blue robe and pointy blue hat, and a wand, with a book that said MERLIN on it. Snow globes? Awesome.

"Happy birthday," he said with a small grin.

Merlin sliced each of them a piece while Conner went to go get his gift, and sat down at the small table. The cake was delicious, and he made a point of saying so before turning his attention to the box. Merlin laughed and shook the snow globe, leaning in to inspect the small figure. He loved that little version of him. The movie was one of his favorites.

"Thank you!" He shook it again. "I've never seen these before." Merlin set it down, and took another bite of his cake. It was a very good birthday, and Conner managed to cheer him up, distracting him from missing home.

"I really appreciate all this, Conner. Thanks again."

He shrugged. "Birthdays." He wore a tight smile as he took a sip of his drink, and cut a peice of the cake with his fork. "They're important." He cleared his throat, a deep breath, and leaned back in his chair. "Glad you liked it all," he said with a chuckle.

"So, what kind of stuff would your mom make for dinner?" He wasn't all that knowledgeable when it came to English cuisine. So, color him curious.

"I did. When is your birthday? We could celebrate, or have that party you suggested." Merlin smiled, eager to return the kindness.

"Nothing really big. Lamb, potatoes, and cabbage. She usually tried to get some nice spices for my birthday, they are kind of hard to get. Sometimes we'd even get a little wine." Merlin didn't grow up with much. He and his mother made due with very little, but they had always been happy. Thinking about her, Merlin worried again, hoping she was okay. It was one of the drawbacks of this place; no matter how many books about himself he found, not one was able to help assure him that his mother was well again -- as much as he tried to assure himself that she had to be.

"Once my friend Will stole a bowl of custard for me. We didn't have anywhere near the amount of sweets available here."

At the mention of his birthday, Kon glanced away and he just smiled and shook his head, by passing the question entirely. "It's all good. No need to repay me or anything." Lamb, potatoes, and cabbage sounded nice, though. He was fairly sure Lamb was something Jonathan enjoyed.

"Well, I love sweets," he said with a soft chuckle. "So anytime you want. Feel free. I usually have tons of candy." Not necessarily custard, but candy was something, right?
