Connor had finished his homework earlier. He was pleased that it had taken him not long at all to get it down. But now.. he needed a workout. And then maybe a good lunch after that was done too. And so, he dressed simply. Jeans and a shirt. He had closed up his door and made his way outside the apartment building. "Now.. let's see.." He looked at the clock on his phone. It was after twelve. He supposed he had enough time, plenty of time to make use of the facilities at the college. There were plenty of options. Hitting the bag, running the treadmill, running laps, etc. He was fully capable of doing either one of those or all of the above. And so, he walked around outside, debating whether he should walk or take his motorbike...

"I'm originally from Los Angeles too," she said, smiling at him.

"Oh I'm sorry," she said. "You must have been very bright though to get into Stanford."

"Ohh, that's cool!" Connor smiled. "My dad and a few friends are also from around there. Or at least from California in general."

He nodded. "Yeah, I made some good high marks in most of my classses. When I wasn't working out at a gym, of course. So what do you think of this place so far?"

"I have a friend who is here who is from Los Angeles too," she said softly.

She smiled at him. "Well I'm sure that your talents will not go to waste here. This place? It's odd how we end up here and there's no escape but well, I know more people here than I did at home, so I guess it's not so bad."

"Oh, well that's good," Connor said with a smile, "not being here alone, I mean. I'd feel a lot out of place if none of my friends were here." But if that were the case.. he'd deal. Like he usually did.

He sighed as he remembered his own arrival some time back. "Believe me, I tried escape. Even tried to fight them.. they don't like that." He laughed. "But meeting new people here is definitely considered a silver lining."

She nodded her head. She didn't have anyone from home to miss.

"Yes, it is," she said, smiling at him.

Connor found himself smiling back. It was refreshing to have a nice conversation that didn't involve bad guys. "So.. what kind of work did you do before coming here, if I may ask?"

"I worked for the caring hands homeless shelter. Well not worked, I volunteered there. I volunteered in a few other places too," she said, smiling warmly at him.

"A homeless shelter?" Connor seemed to recognize that sort of thing. He did live in L.A., after all. "That's really cool. My dad knew this woman named Anne, she ran a shelter too. Did great work for the community."

She smiled warmly at him.

"It's really nice to be able to help people. To make a difference in their lives. There are way too many homeless people in the world. I wish I could help them all."
