Who: Gwen, Arthur, open to other Merlin characters.
Where: Hospital
When: Early Afternoon
What: Bad News
Rating: PG (Though this may be a sensitive subject)
Status: Incomplete

Gwen sat staring at the white wall opposite, her PDA lying on her leg. The chatter of the hospital was fading behind her and she really didn't want to pay much attention to them anyway. Occasionally she would get a sympathetic smile through the door and she was half tempted to move and slam it shut. But at least with it open Arthur would know this was where she was immediately. She probably should have told him earlier, but she was swept up on all the medical aspects of this that she found it difficult to get a moment to contact him.

She sighed and dropped her eyes to the covers over her, bringing a hand to the cotton white blanket on top and playing with a loose thread. She wished Gaius was here for some reason, even if it was just for the comfort of a physician she knew and trusted a little bit more than the ones here. Slowly, she moved the PDA to the little table beside her, knowing Arthur was on his way, before turning her head to face the window.

Arthur's gaze slid to Morgana's upturned face. There was nothing more unenjoyable than this. He folded his arms and crossed his legs at the ankle, urging the elevator on while Merlin fiddled with buttons, or whatever he was doing.

He broke her stare by glancing down at his feet. "I cannot."

Merlin stepped out of the elevator (the second floor didn't take long to reach after all), and looked to Arthur again to show them where they were going. He wanted to see that she was okay, even though he was pretty sure that she was. Arthur was too calm for her to be any else. Afterward, he would -- He didn't know. Make sure she had everything she needed, Arthur and Morgana too. Merlin wasn't a very good servant most of the time, but taking care of them was habit, and it would make him feel better.

In fact, he saw a cart outside one of the near by rooms with blankets, pillows, and cleaning supplies. It was cold, and those blankets were pathetically thin. So he grabbed a spare of both for Gwen. "Which room?"

Morgana watched him for a long moment, took in his bowed head before momentarily cutting her eyes to Merlin who stood between them. His nervous energy somehow made this a little more bareable. And Arthur ... What couldn't he tell her? Why couldn't he tell her? Morgana had the sense it was more that he couldn't then that he shouldn't, which-not so oddly enough if one knew how she felt about the people in question-helped her to hold her tongue once again.

Returning her gaze to the elevator doors, she watched as they opened. Stepping out and waiting.

Arthur pointed two fingers down the wide, sterile corridor at the only open door. He'd left it open intentionally and the nurses had not seemed to mind at the time.

"That one." He stuck his hands into his pockets and stared off to his left. "She may have fallen asleep," he warned, though why he thought they needed one, he couldn't say.

Merlin headed down the hallway with the bundle of blanket and pillow in his arms, stopping short of the room to peek in the room then glance back to the other two. Gwen was turned away from him so he couldn't tell if she was asleep or not, so he just went in quietly. "Gwen?"

Gwen had watched out of the door for a little while after Arthur had left, hoping he wouldn't be long. After a moment, however, her gaze turned to the window again as she thought over everything. Slowly, her eyes began to droop. She swore she could hear someone say her name, but she thought it was just her imagination.

Arthur hustled Merlin through the open door. He spared him a passing glance on his way to Gwen's bed. Gently, he reached out and touched her cheek. "Guinevere?"

She mumbled softly before letting her eyes open a little as she turned into his touch. So she had heard someone speak to her, just she was sure it wasn't Arthur's voice.

"Arthur," she said quietly before opening her eyes fully. Spotting Merlin, and she was sure Morgana was there but the other two were covering her slightly, she smiled a little before trying to push herself up to sit. "Sorry, I just can't keep my eyes open," she aplogised quickly.

Morgana suppressed an eyeroll at the two idiots blocking the way to Gwen. As worried she was and as understanding as she was of their own concern, that didn't mean she had to like that they were obscuring the direct path to her dearest friend.

Not that she let that stop her. With quick, efficient steps, the Lady walked around Merlin to Gwen's side. Right by Arthur. Never hesitating in taking her friend's hand or the quick look over she gave her. However, the words. She wanted to ask so many things. Instead, however, she gave a small smile. A tiny one that curved her lips but she wasn't quite feeling. Oh, Gwen. Her dearest friend. She looked ... "You have nothing to apologize. We," By 'we' she meant Arthur but now wasn't the time to snipe so she didn't, "should have let you rest. We could come back another time if you'd rather." Even as she said the words, anyone who knew her knew that Morgana wouldn't be budging from Gwen's side unless the other woman herself pleaded with her to do so ... at least a thousand times. And even then.

She looked away from Arthur when Morgana stepped forward, letting her take her hand. Shaking her head, she squeezed it lightly.

"No I don't mind him waking me. And you can stay, I don't mind."

Company might do her good.

Morgana was at Gwen's side instantly, and now that he saw Gwen wasn't dying he set about making himself busy. He wasn't sure what else to do really. Gwen and Morgana were closer then he was to her, and when they were talking, he felt like he was intruding. So he just set the spare blanket and pillow on the foot of the bed, offering Gwen a warm smile. Then he disappeared, bringing back a pitcher of water and some glasses. He cleaned up a little bit, and probably opened and closed the blinds six times between doing different little tasks, eventually leaving one open and one closed. Finally he ran out of things to do, and settled at Arthur's side.

She smiled back at Merlin when he smiled at her, not knowing what to say. He was being so nice to her, bringing extra things for her and she nodded a little to him.

"Thank you, Merlin. You didn't have to," she said gently.

Then he was cleaning about, and finally he was by her bed beside Arthur. She glanced at all three faces, before looking down.

"You didn't have to come, you know. Not that I'm ungrateful, because I am...grateful that is."

Arthur patted Merlin's back in an idle fashion when he came to stand beside him. Neither of them knew what he and Guinevere did, and though it was unfair to withhold that knowledge from them, he would be damned if he were the one to say it. Guinevere needed to be able to face her friends and say those words to them and know they didn't blame her like he didn't.

"Yes, they did."

Arthur brushed by Morgana, reaching for Guinevere, touching her chin and cheek, tucking a loose curl of black hair behind her ear and waiting, with a great deal more patience than he felt, for her to bring her gaze back to his.

Morgana returned the squeeze Gwen gave her with one of her own, "Of course we had to." Morgana said, immediately agreeing with Arthur.

If it had been anyone else their eyes would have widened at the uncharacteristic display of affection the Prince of Camelot was showing towards a "servant". As it was Morgana, there was a small part of her trying not to be smug. It wasn't a shouting from the mountain top. But this was Arthur and that gesture was as good as. She was happy for them; however, as good as Morgana was at her multitasking, she moved her attention from Arthur and Gwen, to rest solely on her friend. "You needed us, so we came." It was that simple to her, "We had to come, I had to come, to see for myself how you were doing and if you needed thing. You mean too much to me for me to have not to."

Morgana had never had any problem, even in Camelot, showing her affection for Gwen. And she meant it. The minute she had heard something had happened, she had needed to be there by her friend's side to make sure things weren't as horrible as she was imagining and to help her with whatever she might have needed.

She looked up when Arthur brushed at her hair, realising when he didn't move that she was meant to look up at him. She met his gaze for a moment, before looking away to Morgana when she spoke. When she said she had to come to see how she was, she realised that she should probably tell them the reason why she was in here.

"I am glad you came. I have to tell you something," she said before glancing at Merlin. "Well both of you."

She bit her lip before looking at Arthur. She needed his help, his support.

Arthur shifted to the side and threw a pointed look over his shoulder toward Merlin. For some unfathomable reason, Merlin's actions came across as more awkward and frustrating than normal and Guinevere wanted him here and Arthur wasn't going to let Merlin get away with standing on the opposite side of the room when Guinevere chose to tell him what had happened.

Catching Gwen's eye, he bent and pressed a kiss to her temple. "It's going to be fine," he told her, all certainty and false strength. "They need to know."

Gwen sighed softly, her eyes closing at his gentle kiss. He just somehow managed to calm her so easily right now, he was giving her the support that she really did need. Opening her eyes, she looked back at Arthur and nodded before glancing between Merlin and Morgana. She didn't know who to focus on, so chose to let her eyes fall to the blankets covering her.

"I...I lost the baby," she said softly, but knew they would have heard."
