Gwen sat staring at the white wall opposite, her PDA lying on her leg. The chatter of the hospital was fading behind her and she really didn't want to pay much attention to them anyway. Occasionally she would get a sympathetic smile through the door and she was half tempted to move and slam it shut. But at least with it open Arthur would know this was where she was immediately. She probably should have told him earlier, but she was swept up on all the medical aspects of this that she found it difficult to get a moment to contact him.

She sighed and dropped her eyes to the covers over her, bringing a hand to the cotton white blanket on top and playing with a loose thread. She wished Gaius was here for some reason, even if it was just for the comfort of a physician she knew and trusted a little bit more than the ones here. Slowly, she moved the PDA to the little table beside her, knowing Arthur was on his way, before turning her head to face the window.

By his arrival at the hospital, Arthur was ready to punch in someone's teeth. It truly didn't matter whose at that point. Energy coiled in and out of his arms and legs and he strode the length and breadth of the city, glad he had forgotten his sword in their room, because God knew how many wounded bodies he would have left from those who would not move out of his way.

He had settled on bellowing halfway there and that had sorted out the majority of the idiots who didn't notice the tightness of his body and barely concealed madness.

The poor receptionist held no chance and he had to physically relax his jaw enough to ask after Gwen's whereabouts and very nearly had to shove her to get her to give them to him. He wasn't next of kin. He was not her family. And he looked like a man possessed and in many ways, he may as well have been.

Her room was on the second floor and he was at the stairs before anyone could tell him where the elevators were. They moved too slow and his heart was pounding too hard in his chest to the detriment of his ribs. Arthur slowed, little by little, as he neared the open door, fighting his own reactions as his nerves grew. She was alive. That was what mattered. She was alive. How else would she be able to contact him?

Arthur paused out of view and took the chance to double over, breathing into his knees. Slowly, he felt the tension seep from his body, into his sneakers and then the floor. A minute passed before he felt capable of passing through that door, and when he did, he did it with a light knock to the frame.

Gwen's eyes were staying firmly on the window as she listened more to the people talking outside her door. She really did just want to get up and go, but they said they would tell her when they deemed it an 'appropriate time'. She would much rather rest at home but apparently that wasn't allowed. She winced as she felt another pain hit her, closing her eyes and breathing slowly. She had been told that she would feel this physical pain for a day or so, not so different from her monthly course more than likely. But it felt worse.

She heard the light knock and tried to dismiss it, hoping that whoever it was would perhaps realise now was not a good time. Right now all she wanted to do was curl up and will the pain away. Preferably with Arthur, in their own bed, in the quiet. Not in this loud hospital with nurses coming in to see how she was doing and if she wanted anything every five minutes.

	She wasn't going to turn for him, he realized. Not that she knew who it was since she stubbornly refused to turn. Something hard and leaden sank hard in his stomach when he caught sight of her paled face. Arthur stepped forward and shut the door behind him. "Guinevere?" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	She was glad when she heard the door, and relieved when she heard the voice. Quickly wiping at her cheeks, the couple of tears that had fallen from the pain she had being removed swiftly, before she looked up at him. "Arthur." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

There wasn't room for doubt or unwillingness when he crossed to her side. Arthur stroked a few tangled curls off her face and wiped his thumb over her damp cheek. How long she'd been crying was hard to say. What troubled Arthur most, what dragged forth the greatest amount of concern, was the fact that she looked physically fine. Only tired and miserable.

"Will you tell me what happened?"

	She found it difficult to meet his eyes, so let them close slowly at his touch. How could she tell him this? Tell him what had hapenned. How would he react to it? She needed him after all. "It's my fault," she said quietly. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Arthur tangled his fingers in her hair, not enough to hurt her, or even put more than the barest pressure, but to tell her to open her eyes and speak to him. 	She could tell what he wanted her to do and it was hard to do so. But she owed it to him, had to do as he asked. Slowly she opened her eyes, looking up at him. "It's...it's the baby." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Arthur's heart slammed down into the acid of his stomach as he searched her face for what that meant. He wasn't naive. He'd lived long enough to know not everything in life went the way it was meant to, but this was unnecessarily cruel to Guinevere, who had truly lost more than any of them could say she rightfully ought to have.

And from her reluctance and ashen features, he knew, just knew without having to ask again, what that meant.

"It is not your fault."
