Brooke and Lucas
Who: Brooke and Lucas, CLOSED
Where: Lobby of Building C
When: Saturday afternoon
What: A familiar face.
Warnings: None.

Brooke walked into the lobby of Building C. She had a few bags - $100 didn't go far, but she now had some clothes and food. This place still freaked her out but at least she wouldn't starve. She still had a little money left over, and would have to see about a job soon.

She was thinking about that, so it took her a second to register that the guy standing in the lobby looking at a PDA was familiar.

She stopped suddenly, doing a double take.

"Lucas?"

He hugged her tighter.

After ending up in this bizarre place it was really nice to see someone he knew.

He pulled back and grinned at her. This his face fell.

"Oh Brooke," he said. "You're here too." He leaned in and hugged her again.

He was really happy he wasn't alone but not at the cost of her having to be in this bizarre place too.

She squeezed him tightly. She hadn't thought about it like that.

"Yeah, I'm sorry you were dragged here too," she said.

She pulled away. "But it is kinda great to see you. I only arrived yesterday. Have you been here long?"

He smiled at her.

"Yeah, it's great to see you too. It's been a while, Brooke Davis," he said.

"Uh, I arrived a couple of hours ago. Was just about to head up to check out my room. I'm in 301 apparently. You know anything about this place?" he asked.

She nodded, suddenly feeling a little awkward. The last time they'd seen each other was that night in New York. She'd deliberately been keeping her distance since then, it was better for both of them that way. Not that she'd had much time to keep in contact with anyone.

"Yeah, definitely been a while," she said.

"I'm in 303," she told him. "We're neighbours."

"You just got here? Well, not a lot, but apparently, you can't leave."

He shifted on his feet when he saw that she seemed awkward. He felt really bad about what had happened in New York and knew she'd been keeping her distance from him.

He wasn't sure if he should mention it or not. Say he was sorry. He hated things being awkward with Brooke.

"Yeah," he said, avoiding her gaze.

"Neighbors, that's cool," he said.

"We can't?" he asked. "Well that sucks," he said, running a hand through his hair.

Yeah, this was awkward.

But they were stuck here, they should stick together. And it had been a year.

"It really does suck. But hey, at least we're not alone. I just bought some food, you hungry?" she asked, biting her lip.

"Food would be good," he said, giving her a small smile.

He picked up the bags she dropped on the floor.

"So, I guess we're heading to the third floor," he said. "You wanna lead the way?"

He picked up her bags and she smiled.

"I guess. I can get some of those," she said.

"Nah, it's cool," he said, smiling at her. "I've got them."

They headed up to the third floor and he stopped outside her room.

"So you've only been here a day and you've already gone shopping for clothes," he said, chuckling. "Well I guess some things don't change."

She gave him a look as she unlocked the door.

"I needed clothes!" she said, a little defensively. "I can't walk around naked."

He chuckled.

"Well at least you'd never have to worry about re-election," he said, grinning widely.

He followed her into the apartment.

"So, any chance you bought chocolate chip cookies? I could use some comfort food about now."

She laughed.

"God, that seems like so long ago," she said, shaking her head.

"I bought cookie dough," she said, grinning.

"Yeah, it feels like another lifetime ago," he said.

"Ooh, we should make cookies then."

"So, how have you been Brooke?" he asked, sitting on one of the stools in her kitchen.

"Sure, if you wanna cook it. I was just gonna eat it raw," she admitted.

"I've been busy," she said. "Really busy. But good."

"That's good," he said. "I'm glad that the company is going well."

She shrugged. "You know me and instant gratification," she said, smiling. She grabbed a knife from the kitchen and sliced the dough.

She nodded slightly. "Yeah," she said. "How about you? How's the book tour?"

That was much safer than asking about anything else. She took a bite, it did taste good.

"The book has been going well. Lindsay, my editor, is pretty cool. We sorta went on a date a couple of weeks ago."

He took some of the cookie dough and eat some.

"Mm, this is good," he said.

She raised an eyebrow. "A date?" she asked, smiling. "Really?"

That was great. She hadn't wanted to bring up the elephant in the room, but this was a good way to find out how he was doing since the whole Peyton thing.

She nodded. "It is, but tell me more about this Lindsay," she said, leaning across the counter.

"Yeah," he said, smiling.

"She's great. She's sweet and funny and gorgeous. She's an amazing editor. I just... It was the first date ya know? I don't know if we're going anywhere. Well... I guess now I'll never find out."

Brooke gave him a sympathetic look. She sounded great.

"Oh, that sucks," she sighed. She reached out to rub his arm.

He smiled a little when she rubbed his arm.

"So, how about you? Is there anyone special?"

She shook her head.

"No, not even close. There's been a few guys but nothing serious. I don't really have time for anything serious," she sighed.

"Victoria keeps reminding me it's Clothes Over Bros."

He gave her a sympathetic look.

"I'm sorry Brooke," he said, placing his hand on her arm. "You deserve to find someone special more than anyone I know."

He rubbed her arm. "But hey, now you're here you've got plenty of time and no Victoria."

She nodded. "Definitely."

But then she paused. "I shouldn't be so mean. She's actually been great with the company. A lot of why it's so successful is because of her."

"She may have made it more successful but you should give yourself more credit. You started the company and you made it great. You're going to change the world some day Brooke Davis. And okay, it may not be back home but I'm sure that you can change it here. You're Brooke Davis and you can do anything you set your mind to."
