who: merlin and severus
what: merlin is being a ghostly pest
why: he's upset and likes severus
when: after the spell
where: snape's room.

Merlin hovered around miserably outside the apartment building. He'd died. Something had happened at the party, he'd staggered out of the building, and when he woke up he was transparent. He hesitantly reached forward, making for the door knob, and instead his fingers stuck straight through it. He made a face and pushed his whole hand through the door. Didn't feel a thing, Merlin grumbled to himself. He floated backwards, then rushed forward, his eyes closed fearfully as he shot through the solid wall.

He might have enjoyed it a little more if he wasn't so miserable about being dead. So instead he wandered the halls, stopping briefly at Arthur's door. No, he couldn't -- Arthur had just learned he was going to be a  -  a father. ( He was beginning to like this world less and less. ) He moved through the walls and floors, and stopped at Severus' door. He moved to knock, before remembering himself, and groaning sadly. Eventually he just stuck his head in the door. "Severus? Are you in here?"

As odd as it probably seemed, he really liked Severus, despite his being cranky all the time. He seemed to be the right person to go to, right? Merlin admired him more then a little, and his world had ghosts -- and even if he couldn't help, he sounded like he needed some company lately.

Merlin sniffed and slowly moved into the room. He was quiet at first, going into the kitchen, and looking Severus over. He didn't look very good. It kind of worried Merlin, but catching sight of his own hands distracted him again to his own problems.

"I think -- I died at the party some how!" He meant to slide down and sit on the floor beside Severus, but instead his upper half remained in the same spot while his legs rose up to sit cross-legged on thin air. "I felt sick - lightheaded. So I went outside for some air, and when I woke up I was like this!"

He wasn't sure what to do. He'd wondered initially if he could bring himself back to life, but that would require someone else dying -- Merlin couldn't do that. Not even to one of the random natives of this place. Not to mention his magic wasn't even working properly any more. He could barely move things, little else worked.

"I don't know what else to do." Not that he expected Severus to be able to do anything for him either. He just didn't want to be dead, depressed, and alone.

It was a surreal moment for Severus, to watch one of his friends float through his front door, despite being from a magical world he had never experienced that particular sight. Things only got more bizarre from that moment on.

Severus cocked his head to the side and watched as Merlin crossed his legs in mid air. He blinked a few times as Merlin spoke. When his friend was finished speaking Severus put the knife down, knives were never something to wield when you could not give them your full attention and currently Severus's curiosity was pulling his mind in another direction.

"You think you died? ... At the party?" Severus began slowly. Severus scratched his head, "What kind of party did you go to?!"

"Well -- Yeah! Why else would I be like this!?" He waved a hand through his own head. Could there really be any other explanation for his lack of an actual body? He'd felt ill first as well. Maybe he'd been poisoned? In which case, was it intentional or accidental? And why? He didn't know anyone who disliked him here.

"The halloween party. There was candy, and I wasn't sure what the dressing up was for, but it was fun. I met a boy named Scorpius Malfoy, who knew you. It seemed fine. Then later, like I said, I left 'cause I didn't feel right -- When I came to I was like this!" Merlin had cheered up briefly at the thought of the party before hand, and he'd quite liked Scorpius. It was only the dying part at the end that was the downer. Not to mention he didn't know why he'd felt ill to begin with. It had been rather sudden.

Severus nodded, wishing he was more sober to handle a situation like this, or more drunk. He realized that latter was more easily achieved than the former, at least in the present time. He placed the knife on the kitchen counter and pulled out a shot glass instead, followed by the whiskey. It was possibly rather rude to be drinking in front of Merlin, but he was a ghost, ghosts did not drink.

"Do you remember going towards a very bright light?" That was a silly question, Severus knew, as he'd never had a near death experience, but people always asked, or talked about a 'bright light'.

"What I mean is, do you remember dying?" Severus poured himself a shot and threw it back, waiting for Merlin's answer.

"What -- You really shouldn't," Merlin eyed the glass and bottle, realizing what it was, and honestly he wondered if maybe Severus had a little much to drink already. The potions master didn't seem to hear him though, and kept on pouring all the same while asking about his death.

"A light? No, I don't remember dying. I could have been poisoned and blacked out though, or struck from behind! It could have been traumatic, and I just forgot!" That happened right? People went through something awful and made themselves forget. Surely being killed would be traumatic enough. Who was to say ghosts even remembered dying at all? He didn't know, there weren't other ghosts around to ask.

"How long have you been -- Why are you drinking that?" Merlin asked, obviously concerned, and distracted again from his problems. Death was pretty final, so Severus' problem seemed more pressing. Merlin might still be able to help with that.

Severus ignored Merlin's first statement/question about the alcohol. It wasn't formed properly, as far as questions go, so Severus felt is wasn't incumbent upon him to answer. He just poured himself a glass.

"Death seems like something you would remember, and doesn't it change your perspective, or something? Don't you get all knowledge? I donno," Severus shrugged, realizing he was rambling more than anything.

Severus almost let Merlin's next question slide, as it too was almost not properly formed, but there was a distinct question in that sentence. Severus shrugged again, "Because I want to." Severus swallowed the drink and then moved to the couch - seemed like this might take all night, and he might as well get comfortable.

"Not really. I feel like I always do except, you know, without a body." Merlin didn't feel like had any extra knowledge or a different perspective, unless you want to count the fact that he could look through his own stomach back at people.

He followed Severus to the couch, still watching him drink. "I don't think it's very good for you." Merlin warned. He'd seen people leave the taverns here, all of which were filled with much stronger alcohols then he recognized. Merlin had nearly gagged at the taste of one, before being chased out because he wasn't old enough.

"Are you alright?" He hovered cross-legged over the arm of the sofa.
