WHO; James T. Kirk, Gabriel Gray, Nyota Uhura
WHEN; late evening, not long after this post
WHERE; a bar near Colligo University
RATING; PG-13, to be safe

He was well aware of the fact that Amanda Grayson would probably come looking for him, as she was rather acquainted with his preferred methods of dealing with things that fit into the category of overwhelming. It was why he'd been grateful when Gabriel had pointed out the bar near the university campus, a bar he'd oddly yet to step into so far and hopefully the last place she'd look for him. Maybe his bike being gone would make her think that he was out for a ride if he wasn't at the bar near the apartments that he usually went to. At least he wasn't sulking by himself, which is what he probably would've done if he didn't trust Gabriel to ensure he didn't do anything stupid and Uhura hadn't all but insisted she tag along.

Where those two were, he didn't know, but he was already there with a table claimed, halfway through his first glass.

Maybe if Jim took into consideration the fact that not everyone had a fancy-ass motorcycle to roll around on, he'd have realized that Gabriel and Uhura were currently trekking the distance between the apartments and the bar in question on foot, Uhura herself, in fact, having to track Jim's comm signal since he'd failed to actually give her direction (in hopes that she wouldn't actually show up, she was sure).

Gabriel was the first to arrive, slinking into the bar and over to the table that he spotted Jim at a slightly amused look on his face when he realized that Jim had started without him. At least he wasn't too far in the bag already. Gabriel would have hated to have to deal with a completely blitzed out of his brain James T. Kirk right out of the gate. Sitting down at the table next to his friend, Gabriel offered him a vaguely amused smile.

"Suppose I shouldn't be too surprised," He said, grinning at Jim as he went ahead and ordered a pitcher for the table. Easier that way. "Not that you having a head start will really make a difference."

Finally managing to get within sight of where his signal was coming from, Uhura exhaled in relief. She wasn't sure exactly how far she had walked, but what she did know what that she never wanted to do that again. Stepping into the bar, Uhura blinked against the low light in confusion as she spotted Jim and Spock at the table, frowning slightly as her mind told her that that was hardly right. No. Spock was back in their apartment. She could feel him there. But if he was there, who was that sitting with...

Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no.

This simply would not do. Granted, Jim was oblivious to what had happened for very good reasons, but she wasn't about to sit down and play nice with someone how had kept Spock prisoner simply on some goddamn whim. Stalking over to the table, Uhura frowned heavily at the pair of them, glaring daggers at the doppelganger before turning her attention to Jim.

"Can I speak to you for a moment?"

"Hey," Kirk said, more mockingly defensive than with any hint of seriousness, "I'll have you know this is my first drink, thank you very much. What does it matter to you, anyway? You could chug a few kegs and still be saner than me on this first beer."

Despite the fact that Gabriel, who had become his best friend in this place, had explained about what happened with Spock, Kirk found himself baffled by the dark look Uhura gave him when she arrived. He threw Gabriel a confused look that seemed to ask what was going on, but before Kirk could verbally inquire about it, Uhura spoke up. Oddly enough, his first though was that maybe she'd brought Amanda along to corner him and make him deal with the fact that Colligo had sent his father back to the Kelvin to die, but it wasn't that. Not with the way she'd looked at Gabriel.

"Give us a moment, Copperfield," he told his friend as he slid out of his chair and went over to the xenolinguist. "What's going on?"

She'd hardly brought Amanda along, but if Uhura had been able to read his thoughts, she would have wished that she had if only to keep Jim away from that man. Sparing a withering and yet wary glance towards Sylar before stepping with Jim just out of what (she wrongly assumed) was earshot for the other man.

"What is he doing here?" Uhura asked, a clear hiss in her voice as she referenced the man with a face that he shouldn't be allowed to wear that was sitting at the table staring over at them with a quiet curiosity in his expression. Why did he have to look like that?

"Do you have any idea who that man is, what he is, and what he's done?" Uhura asked. There was a possibility that Kirk didn't have any clues, after all. But Uhura did. What Spock had told her was one thing, but the memories of the encounter that entered her mind through their bond was something...entirely different.

"Gabriel Michael Gray, alias Sylar. He's a naturally Augmented Human with the ability of Intuitive Aptitude that's allowed him to gain a slew of abilities by...colorful means. He's had some issues due to the manipulative nature of others, but he's alright now. I know what he's done in the past, Uhura, and what he did to Spock." Was that what this was about? For the love of God. "I trust him, okay? He's the probably the best friend I've got in this place."

"Colorful's a bit of an understatement, Jim," Sylar said between sips of his beer, using his sound manipulation ability to project his voice over to the pair of them. It was nice, having Dale's enhanced hearing back within his ability to use it. It made things so much simpler when people were talking about him where they thought that he couldn't hear them. It allowed him a better ability to really be able to see how people actuall felt about him, and right now... Well, grateful and relieved were the two main emotions that he was feeling at the moment. That and understanding.

"And in all honesty, she has every right to be unnerved," He continued, taking another sip of his drink as he peered at the pair of them from across the room. "Angry, not really. But certainly unnerved."

And considering the way that Uhura tensed up, unnerved was probably a very good description of her right now.

Whatever sort of response Uhura would have to Gabriel using his sound manipulation ability, Kirk doubted it matched up with his own, which was a roll of his eyes and a halfhearted exasperated look in his friend's direction as he said, "Colorful was me being nice, Copperfield. It was done on purpose."

Really, the captain got it. He really did. But, Gabriel wasn't like that anymore. If he were, Kirk wouldn't be spending so much time around the guy or so easily labeling him as his most trusted confidant. He wasn't quite sure how this friendship had come into existence, but he didn't feel like it was worth questioning. In all honesty, he was thankful for it. His friendship with Bones had fallen apart in ways he didn't understand. Maybe he still had that innate ability to drove people away that had made his mom and Sam leave. And if he hadn't had a friend in place of Bones now that his father was gone...he wasn't sure what he would've done.

The things that Gabriel had done in the past didn't matter. Hell, he was one to talk being the genius level felon that he was. People reformed and that showed him just how human Gabriel was. Uhura, of course, was left to make her own judgments and Kirk wasn't even going to pretend he understood how the woman thought. If he did, maybe her hiding her name from him for so long would make some sense to him.
