That's a charming little fairy tale you heard, but there's more to it than that.

I'll start off by admitting something to you that I haven't to anyone else: yes, I was scared. I wanted to leave. But I knew I couldn't.

But then, I found out something about Voldemort. Something no one else knew. A chink in his armour, if you will. A way that I could ruin his entire plan. He was creating Horcruxes and I knew where he'd hidden one. I died getting it so that Kreacher could destroy it.
