Hey everyone!
Have your characters enjoyed their break from the insanity that constantly plagues Colligo? Good. Because they're getting some more in the form of the Collector bringing back an old plot that most of our players seemed to like the first time around.
Soap Opera Plot!
Yes, starting tomorrow night at midnight (Tuesday night going into Wednesday), the city of Colligo is going to get a huge boost of drama as characters start behaving like they're part of a Soap Opera. Unlike some plots, this one will focus on the interpersonal relationships and conflicts in the city, rather than any sort of external force. Characters might behave in ways they never would otherwise, but nobody will notice anything wrong or think anything is out of the ordinary.
So embrace the drama and have your characters do things they never would under normal circumstances. This is meant to be a fun, zany plot where characters can do crazy things that will leave them wondering what the heck they were thinking when they're back to normal. Drama will, of course, play a role in this, but don't go too over the top with it. We want this to be fun.
- Even though characters will be behaving in ways they ordinarily wouldn't, nobody is going to notice anything out of the ordinary during the course of the plot. After the plot is over, characters are free to remark on things that were out of character, but during the plot everything will seem normal.
- To that end, new characters who arrive during the plot will not act as though they have been brought somewhere against their will. They will simply react as though they are new in town, arriving in either their own car or a cab (that mysteriously doesn't have a fare) if they don't have a car. Alternately, they can arrive at the Colligo bus station, which will temporarily replace the library.
- For ideas as to different cliches or behaviours you can use for your characters, we've found some resources regarding soap operas here, here, and here. There was also one on ohnotheydidnt, but it was really fairly inappropriate. If you really want to read it, you can find it through googling, but do so at your own risk.
- Feel free to "recast" your character. This can mean a PB change (purely for OOC enjoyment), a personality change, or both. In the event of a PB change, nobody will react to the change in appearance, even if your character is suddenly a different ethnicity. Personality changes can be put down to acting out or trauma or not commented upon.
- We recognise that there will be mature content due to the nature of this plot. Be sure to put anything mature behind a cut, with clear ratings and warnings, and friendslock it. With sensitive subjects, please be sure to make warnings very clear so that people don't accidentally read something that might upset them.
- Be sure to check with other players before putting any plots into effect that would affect their characters, even if it centres on your own character. This is just common courtesy and shouldn't need saying.
- Feel free to have your characters get together/break up/get married/get divorced during the plot. Whether or not the relationship/split up stays that way after is entirely up to the players.
- Likewise, aging up your younger characters for the Soap Opera plot does not have to extend beyond the plot if you do not want it to. So feel free to experiment with an older version of a character. You are in no way obligated to keep them older.
- Pregnancies, on the other hand, if they occur during the plot, will carry on after the plot. Keep that in mind when considering that possibility.
- We support and encourage wacky twin/look-alike shenanigans. Just saying.
- Supernatural stuff still exists. Vampires are still vampires. Angels are still angels. None of that changes. Those things are simply considered commonplace and nobody is surprised by it. It's just a fact of life, like rapidly aging kids and your cousin suddenly being black.
- In that vein, sometimes a tornado happens...in one neighbourhood. Or there's an earthquake that only affects a couple buildings and nobody else notices. It's fine. Just go with it. Feel free to play havoc with things like that. Just don't godmod other areas. You can decide that your characters are affected by some freak weather/disaster, but it's up to other players if their characters are also affected, so don't say anything affects the whole city. If you want to have an apartment building affected by something, or a public place that many characters utilise, please let both the mods and the players know beforehand.
- This plot is like a wedding reception. If there's not at least one fight, one hook up, one break up and several secrets revealed, we'll be disappointed.
- Remember that not everything needs to be resolved. Sometimes stories on Soap Operas don't have a neat ending. If you just want your plot to stop when this ends, that's fine. You absolutely do not need to resolve everything.
- Again, try not to overdo the drama. Have fun with this. Because it really is meant to be a fun plot.
The plot will run for two weeks, ending at midnight on Tuesday, November 20. In the meantime, be creative and have fun with this.
