A year ago today, armed with a half-written plot skeleton and a lot of optimism, cirque &
stillskies made a passable attempt at looking like they knew what the hell they were doing, raised the banner, rallied the troops, recruiting friends and strangers to their cause, and embarked on an adventure filled with intrigue, politics, magic, monsters of various sorts, conflicting ideologies, messy family relations, epic romance, and a really, really big dragon…
In the way of all such adventures, it had high points and low points. The plot was appropriately twisty and turny with 80 events over the course of the year. Our ranks swelled to nearly 20 at one point, but we lost friends along the way, and by the final battle we were just 7, including the intrepid leaders. We laughed, we cried, we howled from rooftops (okay, maybe not all, but some of us definitely did), we bonded, we wrote, and in the end, we defeated the Blight and lost Nevarra only to save it again.
So now, it’s time for us to say good-bye.
To those 5 brave souls who stuck this roller coaster ride out from beginning to end with us: THANK YOU. You were the heart and soul of this game, and without you, we wouldn’t have gotten past the tutorial level. For those who played with us for a time before life called you away, if you are reading this: THANK YOU. Each of you brought something necessary and vital to this little game of ours. And though we were always small, we were mighty, too. Observe:
The game had 19 players total, with 7 remaining at the end. Every single person who stayed to the end was with us from the start. We had:
- 48 characters
- 19 temp PCs
- 8 NPCs
We feel we should note that over the course of the game, we saw a staggering 21 character deaths.
And our output was pretty impressive, too. Here is how often the following tags were used over atlostcodices:
- !log: 496
- !narrative: 36
- !group thread: 33
- !thread: 3
If you count all the individual scenes dropped into the group events, it’s very possible that we approached 1,000 unique pieces of prose — and that is before one considers activity on the network.
Basically, guys? WE ROCK.
But all things come to an end, even great things, and we hope you’ll agree that this little adventure of ours was pretty great. So thank you, once again, for coming to play in our sandbox with us. We love you all and we hope we’ll see you around RP-landia. After all, once you’ve been through something like this together, it’s basically science that you’re family.
And so, as hard as it is to say good-bye, we must. Please use this post to share memories, gifs, or basically anything you can think of. Also, if you have any feedback for us about the game, we’d love to hear it!
See you in the world.
