The fact that he refused to look at her stung somewhat and she removed her hand, still staring at the awkward angle of the back of his head. She could understand how he may have been upset but what she didn't understand was why. She was offering her company to him, privately at that, and was willing to listen to whatever he had to say. She wouldn't degrade him or attack him, and she would definitely make sure not to do anything stupid, accidentally or otherwise. This was the only real time she got to spend with him anymore despite having an entire foreign world at the palm of their hands.
Glancing down momentarily, his sudden question startled her and she had to nearly force her body to stop herself from blushing out of embarrassment. Of course, that didn't work. Stupid cheeks.
"It was a birthday present," she said slowly, not wanting to continue. He probably already knew from who and she didn't feel the need to say it out loud. Naruto had given it to her as a close friend, and even if his intentions had been otherwise, it didn't mean she felt the same. Or, really, her stubborn mind refused to let her feel the same. "But it's not... It was just because he actually remembered. I guess..."
