The shadows had very nearly screamed at the sudden presence. It was... different. Different to the one already here. Vastly so. So much more... powerful. At first he almost didn't dare to believe it but the sudden blast of power confirmed it. It did not take Mephiles long after the waves of power for him to start heading towards the source of it, above, on the roof.
The darkness caught in the corners and edges of the building shivered and pooled, shifting away from their spots, utterly silently, until they were able to flicker upwards, lifting from the ground in a mix of strange purplish smoke and black liquid. It took very little time at all for vivid serpentine eyes to open and lay their gaze on the figure standing at the edge of the roof. For a moment he just watched, before a tendril of black slid across the roof until it found the matching source extending from the figure. And then he smiled.
The shade... he knew that shade. It was his own.
Almost immediately, the figure whirled and he found himself presented with familiar, intense crimson eyes. Still hidden in the blackness, emerald eyes bright against the dark, Mephiles chuckled, softly.
"... your senses are as sharp as ever, Shadow the Hedgehog..."
