Still grasping loosely near the bottom of Sasuke's shirt, she nearly stumbled back ungracefully when he started to lean in, but instead gathered herself and stared at him desperately. The brush at her cheek made her breath hitch. He was so close that her eyes were starting to cross from trying to focus on his own, so she closed them slightly, listening to him talk instead. She could feel his warm breath hitting her face gently and her heart was beating so fast she could have sworn he could probably hear it.
The urge to cry returned but she was so good at keeping the tears back at this point in her life that she managed to simply keep them watery. She hated crying in front of him of all people.
They were promises Sakura had never heard him attempt to keep so that fact alone made her belief in him falter slightly. Still, this Sasuke was different. Maybe he was like that. Maybe he was telling the truth and genuinely wanted to stick around... for her.
Trying to calm down, the sensible side of her suddenly became the stronger one and she was able to push herself away from him completely, but not before she reached up on her tippy toes and whispered in his ear: "I believe you."
