He knew it was coming sooner or later. Asch had been too quiet on the network lately, but he wasn't the one to socialize anyway. Luke bothered him more, he hoped that he didn't die on him considering after what the replica told him. Jade had asked Luke to get his fonon frequency checked out and he lied to the group, but the colonel had seen through it. He still seen through it even here, fearing for the replica's life, but knowing that this place would bring them back. What if it didn't? But it brought him back after Soul's attack on him.
Jade frowned and glanced at Akito. Sleeping.
He flipped over the networks, scanning around for their journals, but they were wiped out. Gone. Is this the way how this place worked? Create a journal for one to use then wipe it out as soon as they go home? Only to bring it back if the same version came back, so to speak?
Sonic, did he have the same network name? He made a mental note of asking the hedgehog that next time they spoke.
Jade sighed and shut his eyes, tired. His own sickness had worn him out over the week, getting better, still worn him down. He fell asleep, into a world where he didn't want to belong.
------------
Luke was dying before his eyes, watching him fade away. Asch standing behind him, sneering at the replica, though Jade knew that the original cared for the replica no matter how much hatred came from him.
Dying. Slowly fading away before his very eyes. Jade reached out to grab Luke, but something snatched his back to pull him away.
'Let him go.'
He spun to face Asch. Let him go? Jade blinked and saw the original fading away, into nothing. He couldn't loose them both!
He took a step back, eyes scanning them both. So much alike and yet so different.
One of them smiling at him and the other one sneering in his direction.
Fading.
"NO!"
------------
Jade jerked awake in a cold sweat, breathing hard. They had not died, had not...
... They had just gone home, back to Mushroom Road, back to Belkend. His hands clenched into fists as he took a deep breath. Breathe, breathe.
A quick scan over the network again. Gone, both of them gone. People from his world were coming and going, fast, way too fast! Why hadn't he disappeared? Why hadn't he gone home yet--
--Wait, he had gone home for a day here, while a week went by on his world. But he's been here since, did the building want something from him? Ridiculous. He needed to quit thinking so hard on it, he had a birthday to focus in on after all.
Kaito, the robot, birthday this month. He sighed and un-balled his fists.
Scared on the inside, scared that he might be next to go home. Red eyes looked over at Akito's sleeping form. Part of him wanted to go home, but he didn't want to lose his happiness here, strange as that sounded to him, he is happy here, despite the curses and attacks, he had the best thing in his life right now. A son. He didn't want to break the light, so he hoped for both of their sakes that he would stay here, for as long as this place kept them here.
He smiled a little, got up from the sofa, setting the laptop on the ground and went to his son's side. Gently placing a hand on Akito's forehead as he slept. He couldn't risk losing this happiness.
