Dick nodded and looked back up at Robin. "When I woke up I was in a warehouse down by the harbor. Not that I was paying enough attention to realize that then. Two-Face was there and two of his thugs were holding me down and he had this gallows set up with Batman and Judge Watkins already with nooses around their necks. He . . . made me choose which one would die first and when he flipped his coin the Judge's side came up."
It may have seemed like a lifetime ago, but the memories were still so raw and after this last run-in with Two-Face his emotions were so high-strung. He sniffed and ducked his head, trusting the shadows to cover him as he blinked away any physical signs of weakness. "I tried to stay calm and think about what Batman would do in my place. I tried to outsmart Two-Face. I made another bet with him, best two-out-of-three, and if the coin landed unscratched side up then Judge Watkins wouldn't hang. I thought I had him, I thought it was a sure thing.
"But when the coin did land clean side up . . . Two-Face cut the noose and . . . and he released the trapdoor anyway and Judge Watkins fell into the harbor with his hands and legs still tied . . . "
