Actually, Allen predicted that the other would do so, for his attack was like this, predictable and straight ahead. So, skillfully landing he prepared for his next movement. Which didn't take long because if he had learned one thing from his job, it was to think and act quickly and not let his enemy have enough time to predict his next move.
