The dead look on her face was one that made Sakura a little scared, to be honest. She had never seen her so depressed before, at least to this level. All the people in her life she had gotten the chance to see sad carried a huge weight of emotion with them and even Sasuke (on the rare occasions that she had seen anything out of him) treated his emotions more expressively. At least she had been able to know he was sill alive. The apathy on Asuka's face was too much.
The moment she saw Asuka stagger slightly, Sakura closed their door for much needed privacy and took a few more steps toward her, standing behind her yet slightly to the side as Asuka fell down and began to scream. Sakura also dropped down to her knees gently, raising a hand to place it on the girl's back but hesitated, allowing her to finish her words before even daring to breathe.
Sakura had heard her cry. It was during those eerie evenings when Asuka probably thought her room mate was sound asleep that she began to sob quietly to herself. But Sakura heard. Sometimes, when it was difficult to fall asleep, she stayed up without stirring and listened to her cry. She had never said a word about knowing and probably never would for her sake, but it pained her to know Asuka was keeping so much inside. She hated not knowing how to help.
Her last words made Sakura gulp lightly but she didn't ask, merely giving in and placing a protective arm around the redhead's shoulders. At times like these, sometimes saying nothing at all helped more.
