A Girl's Night Out [24 Mar 2009|09:24am]
Izzy entered the upscale bar not far from Juliet's neighborhood and looked around for her friend. She'd agreed to meet the younger woman here after Izzy had told her about the breakup with Logan, and had made a point of dressing up just a bit since it wasn't some little hole in the wall neighborhood dive bar. After a moment she spotted the Slayer seated at the counter and slid into the seat next to her.

"That must be some ID you've got, Juliet." She murmured to her friend in greeting, a small smile on her face before she turned to the bartender and ordered a Long Island Iced Tea for herself. This wasn't a conversation she wanted to do without alcohol.

Juliet's hair swung back over her shoulder as she turned to face Izzy, pleased to see her friend and giving her a wink. "Pays to have money, you might say, and friends with connections." Her ID was beyond question, the best money could buy, and had her at 23 which she was easily able to manage. Confidence was the key, and that was something she had in spades, but had wondered for a while over the previous few weeks. )
Juliet slipped off her stool, looping her arm around Izzy's waist and hitching her bag up onto her shoulder. The dress she wore covered the wound in her back which had almost finished healing, and the bruising had faded enough it couldn't really be seen in this lighting. "Dancing! Now that's something I reckon I can handle without any trouble at all!" she assured Izzy, feeling the taller woman's slight unsteadiness and anchoring her firmly. They were going to party, and Izzy was going to realise just how much fun she could have!

Facade [24 Mar 2009|08:41pm]
"And your change is 11.49. Thank you for shopping at Thoth's Library." Avery gave the customer a perfunctory smile as he handed over the money and the shopping bag filled with merchandise. There had been a steady stream of patrons all night, starting the moment the vampire had punched in and begun his shift. He didn't mind being busy; it was a lot harder to look busy when he really wasn't. Everyone had been fairly correct about things going back to normal, the visit from his cousin notwithstanding. That had been a jarring experience, but at the same time, it was oddly comforting. Now at least one member of his family knew the truth, and there was the inexplicable feeling of a burden having lifted.

She didn't know why she was there. It was far past dark, almost midnight, and she felt a little as if she were in a bad espionage thriller as she flipped up the collar of her heavy coat and slipped past the exiting customer, hoping the bell would only jingle once. Some perverse part of her had insisted on seeing him, just to assure herself that he was still in one piece. She'd purposely avoided the news since the accidental encounter with Mr. Curtis, knowing that if the other vampire had his way about it Avery would be a pile of ashes once it was over. And while part of her would have been bitterly gratified to see it, the other half railed against it.

A somewhat expectant silence fell as the last buyer departed, and Rebecca fought with herself over what to do. If she left this second, he didn't even have to know she'd been there. She didn't know what she thought of him anymore. Teflon-coated Avery. If she left now...

Shutting the cash register, Avery looked up toward the door. Seeing Rebecca standing there, his expression flickered only momentarily, his hands still on the till. He opened his mouth to speak, but there was something about a plain 'hello' that didn't seem to suffice, considering their last conversation. But his brain wasn't giving him much of a choice. "Hi," the vampire said quietly, not stepping out from behind the glass barrier that was the counter. "Is there something...?," he had been about to add 'I can help you with' but the words died on their way out when he saw her expression.

The Air in Texas [24 Mar 2009|08:58pm]
Galveston, Texas

"Whooooooooo hoo! Alright now, it's time for an oldie but a goody! How about some Tim McGraw with Indian Outlaw!" The Texan disk jockey's rowdy introduction was drowned out by cheers from a hot and sweaty crowd of experienced locals and short-term tourists. Most of the latter were fresh off a round of country line dancing lessons. The dance hall was thick with the scents of beer, smoke, and food fried up for appetizers.

Rosalyn was grateful she didn't perspire like regular gals. Otherwise, she would've been a wilted flower, all bent out of shape and droopy. The vampire's hair had seen better days, that was for sure. Pieces had fallen out of her ponytail and clung to her face, as if the very air was saturated with moisture. When she made it back to the hotel room, she was sure there'd be blisters on her heels, as many times as she'd kicked them up tonight, or just plain old kicked them while weaving grapevines. "Ready to go another round?" She leaned across a table and smiled at her partner, fingertips dancing on his forearm.

Ghostly, a trickle of sweat snaked down the base of Gavin's neck, soaking into the collar of his shirt. The blue fabric darkened to match the patches down his spine and under his arms. Though he didn't feel grimy yet in the heat of such a crowded hall; the werewolf only felt happy. The kind of goofy, fun loving, happy that people wait their whole life to feel. When they had first arrived in Galveston, the last thing he ever imagined doing was line dancing. Once he got over the initial embarrassment, and started to pick up the steps, he found himself really enjoying it.
