Re: 2200
“I guess I’m not too smart with that sort of thing,” Jack said, rubbing at his neck, still feeling rather silly. “Everyone talked the same where I’m from, lived there for generations. You forget, almost, that there’s an actual world outside your town, you know?” the young man mused idly, finishing his thought a moment later with a wry, “Until it all explodes into chaos, that is.”
“They’re yours,” Jack laughed, nodding as he lifted his beer to his lips. Jack doubted that being the oldest would do him any better in his own family—there had been just as much pressure on his brother William to make something of himself. There had been expectations and he defied them, but in a non-arguable sort of way—becoming a priest was sort of okay, wasn’t it?
Certainly better than going off to fight in some silly war.
“Some of it, yeah,” Jack said, nodding, a little wide-eyed and surprised t how interested Sam seemed to be. “I’m just one of them. I haven’t started yet, but once the planes get in, people will start telling me what I’ve gotta do. Then the jackets. Luckily I wont be the only one doing all of it,” he smiled, shrugging.
