Re: 2200
Sam shrugged nonchalantly. Perhaps it was horribly unprofessional of him, but he was stern when he had to be, and he thought he could find a good balance between being respected and not being walked all over. Besides, he didn't want to look like he was being too forceful and overcompensating for his field commission. "Yer' secret's safe with me," he grinned, nodding as well. . .that phrase always having a slightly different meaning to Sam himself. "There'ye go," he nodded in agreement.
Sam wasn't about to go sit at the table of an enlisted man, or go out for a drink with them, but he wasn't going to turn down conversation with anyone. Especially not the young man he seemed so focused on now. "That's the idea, that whole trust thing and shit," he laughed out loud. "I'll take the trust, that's my job."
Sam's green eyes went a bit wide as Jack looked away to the party, worried he'd bored the younger man. He looked a bit at ease again as Jack spoke again, though still wasn't his usual cocky self around this man. Not yet, anyway. "Same as me. Though I reckon I was a little younger than yourself when I joined up."
Usually he was so much better at small-talk. This was horrible, it really was - Sam would try not to cringe.
