WHO: Damon and Elena
WHERE: A deserted cabin, outside of town
WHEN: Week 7. Friday, late evening
WHY: Damon is hungry, and worried he might do serious damage to his slave.
WARNINGS: Bloodlust, desperation, killing of a slave.
By Tuesday the cabin was chilled, and by Friday morning it was an icebox. The wood in the cabin had been dry, but Damon had found it impossible to get a strong fire burning, with anything that had been outside. The bitter cold and wet had seeped it's way into the wood, and all it would do was smoke and sputter, before leaving the room cold again. For Damon, this meant nothing, but Elena was slowly freezing. Her body shook day and night, trying to deal with the cold. He had thought about leaving her, and trying to get help, but the drifts had come up over the door, and it had taken him two hours, just to clear enough so that he could get outside. He couldn't leave her behind.
But at the same time that Elena was slowly freezing, Damon was slowly starving. He had fed from Elena slowly, a little each day, but she was doing poorly, and there was no other source of blood. The animals in the nearby woods had been smart enough to hole themselves away, even if he was willing to resort to Stefan's usual fare. So, they had begun a cycle of him feeding, and trying to heal her after, each time. The wounds knitted together, but blood loss was still blood loss. Eventually, she was so cold that he knew he couldn't give her any more of his blood. If she died, she would turn, and he wasn't ready for that, not yet. Not only that, but he had no idea how Stefan would take such a thing. As much as he warred with his brother, he wouldn't do anything that would drive Stefan away again.
With his own heat gone, Damon kept himself away from Elena and the temptation of her blood. She lay on a small sofa, wrapped in every blanket the cabin had supplied them.
"Are you still awake?" he asked, seeing that her eyes had closed in the last few minutes.
