Who: Allison, Derek, and later Stiles
Where: The Hale Estate
When: Week 6, Thursday early morning
Why: Allison's run away and is looking for Stiles
Warning: None that I know if at the moment

Allison had had enough of being stuck in Eterna's house, so the first opportunity she'd got, she escaped. It had been the middle of the night, when she was sure that all the slaves and Eterna herself were sleeping, and she ran as far and as fast as she could go. If she was going to get caught, it would've been worth it. But after running for about ten minutes, she realised she wasn't being followed, and slowed down, thinking things through a little more.

She wanted to go home. See her dad. And if she was going to do that, she was taking Stiles with her. Keeping off the streets, she moved to a wooded area, hoping to take cover before she could work out where he was. Keeping to the shadows, however, she sensed someone nearby, and she slipped behind a tree, holding her breath. So long as she stayed still, she wouldn't be found.

Derek studied her, frowning--she didn't seem to be shivering, but she wasn't wearing much of, well, anything, and was clearly hugging herself for warmth. The werewolf was only dressed in running clothes. If he'd had a sweatshirt, he would've handed it over.

"Have you been out here all night?" he asked, his tone quickly shifting from territorial to concerned. She clearly posed no threat to him, or the pack. "Are you hurt?" he continued. He wouldn't blame the girl for being wary of him. He'd been...well, he'd been a Master when he'd been at Eterna's, and that, combined with how Stiles no doubt had characterized him meant that he probably was the last person she would trust right now.

He held his hands up, though he knew she knew (if she knew he was a werewolf) that he wouldn't need a weapon to hurt her if she really wanted.

"Did she hurt you?" he repeated. "Do you need help?"

If she was a runaway, it was his duty to return her to Mistress. But somehow, Derek couldn't stomach the thought. Derek wasn't a political person. He did his best to stay out of politics, local or global. And if it had been anyone else on Hale lands, maybe Derek wouldn't be acting the way he was. But the girl was, from what he had gleaned through Stiles' journal, the video, and their conversations, unhappy, and she was Stiles' friend.

"I've been running all night. I'm not hurt, I'm fine." She explained, the tone being something that she wasn't expecting - the kind of things Stiles had said, and her general assumption about Masters in general.

"I just didn't want to be there, I didn't like what she was making me, and I don't owe you any explanations." She huffed, knowing she shouldn't have said anything at all. She wasn't looking for sympathy from someone that wouldn't give her any anyway. "Now where's Stiles?" She frowned, leaning against a tree so she was able to take a step back.

Derek resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He could see why she was friends with Stiles. Were all wild humans this mouthy?

"If you want to see Stiles, I'd advise you to be a little nicer to the person who can take you to him," he replied, pointedly. He was relieved to know she wasn't hurt, but that didn't mean he was going to take her to Stiles. Not until he knew her intent. "Why do you want to see him?"

Allison fell silent at the almost threat of not seeing her friend, instantly chastising herself that she would act that way - she should fight and battle to get to him, not behave subserviently to get what she wanted. Nevertheless, she took a deep breath, relaxing herself.

"I haven't seen him in three weeks. I miss him." It wasn't a lie, so she looked him in the eye again, daring him to assume she wasn't telling the truth, but as an extra measure, she relaxed herself enough to be able to lie. Sighing, she looked away again. "Why are you talking to me? You're just going to take me back to her."

"That's what I'm supposed to do," Derek agreed. "It'd be bad for us, politically, if Eterna found out you were here and we hadn't."

That didn't mean he was going to do it.

"Stiles asked me to buy you," he admitted. "When he decided to stay with me. That was the first thing he asked."

"Then do what everyone else does - blame a slave for everything that goes wrong. We're lesser beings than you, so why the hell not? You get to carry on living your luxurious lifestyle while we get punished for breathing at the wrong time." There was a bite of sarcasm in her tone, and she held herself even tighter - her instincts told her to attack, but common sense held her back. She glanced up again at what Derek said, nodding slightly.

"He told me." She said, quietly, looking up. "It's not something you ever followed through on, so why tell me? I know he's not here through force, so I wasn't a condition of him staying. That's the fucked up part of this whole thing. That we just stopped fighting."

"If I thought she would have accepted an offer--any offer--I probably would have," Derek replied. "I don't buy into Eterna's method of...control. I never wanted that for Stiles." That was why he had told her.

Clearly the girl had gone to the same brainwashing school as Stiles when it came to Master/slave relationships. He wondered what Stiles thought--did he also think that he'd given up? Given in? Did he resent Derek the way Allison resented Eterna?

The werewolf knew one thing for certain. If he turned Allison in, or let her go without letting her see Stiles, his slave wouldn't be happy with him. And Stiles' happiness mattered, even if it shouldn't. His jaw worked, and he glanced back towards the house. Luckily it was still early, but he couldn't take her to the main house without running into other slaves, or Laura, or both, and he wasn't certain he wanted Laura to know there was an escaped slave on their property.

He headed towards the garage instead. It was far enough from the main house that they should be unnoticed, and generally uninhabited, except by him.

"Well?" he called over his shoulder. "Do you want to see Stiles or not?"

"... She wouldn't have accepted an offer, I know that. She's made it quite clear what I am, and whose I am." She shrugged, sniffing slightly - saying it outloud almost made it worse. But arguing that he didn't want it for Stiles? She shook her head. "You bought him, you branded him, you admit you own him, and I'm sure you ask him to do whatever you want him to do, and he'll do it. And amount of control over a human is too much." Why didn't they see that, any of them? Was it really that alien a concept that people didn't want to be owned? But she did like it sometimes, didn't she? She shook her head to herself, telling herself that that kind of thinking was exactly why she needed to get away.

She was so distracted, she almost missed when he started walking away, and she was about to call at him, complaining about being left outside on her own, lost, when he called her over, and she raised her eyebrows, quickly following after him. What was with this wolf? Why was he being so nice? It wasn't something her family ever planned for her.

"Where are we going?" She asked, feeling the chill, and wishing she had found something with a few more layers, not that such a thing existed in her wardrobe, of course, but she could hope.

"Somewhere you can meet Stiles," Derek replied, leaving the obviously unsaid.

"You know, humans have been the responsibility of supernaturals for centuries," he pointed out. "It's not about control. It's about safety." Which wasn't entirely true. He did get off on the control, but that was personal.

The garage was a good hike--at least a mile from where they were in the Preserve, so they had plenty of time for conversation. Or not.

"We're not pets. We don't want you responsible for us, we're not a danger to ourselves or anyone else, unless we're threatened. You keep us, you restrain us like we're animals, and you don't see why that's wrong. We have as much right to enjoy our life, with freedom, as anyone else." She answered, very quickly getting offended. It was an argument she'd had many times with Eterna, but she trusted that Derek wouldn't be someone who would twist her words in the same way she did. "I was safer and happier when I was free. Don't you think Stiles was, too?"

"Maybe I wasn't," Derek shot back, and then immediately regretted it.

He hadn't meant to say that. At all. To anyone. Much less to Allison.

It was the truth, though. Despite everything...the werewolf was happier now with Stiles than he had been before. Taking care of Stiles fulfilled a need that taking care of Isaac couldn't, simply by virtue of Stiles being human. Stiles needed him in a way the werewolf didn't.

Allison paused for a second, staring at him, and trying to work out if he'd meant what she thought he meant saying that.

"...We're kept away from our families, told where we can go, what we can do. How would you like to be told you can't go and see your family?" She folded her arms, carrying on after him. There was a solution to all this somewhere, she was sure of it, but it was hard to see it, just as it was hard to see Derek as someone who would understand, or listen.

Derek's jaw clenched at her words. Family was a bit of a sore subject with him. "Most families are kept together," he grit out. "If you'd been born in captivity, you would've been raised with your family."

He shot a glance over his shoulder. "Your family is back at the camps right? Filled with humans brainwashed into wanting to kill anything supernatural just because it's supernatural? It's not cruelty to keep you away from them. It's self-preservation."

"And there you go again - captivity. Like we're wild animals, when we have just as much brain power and capability as you. So what - I get someone to bite me, and suddenly I'm superior? Because I have pointy teeth and claws?" She rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "I don't even know why I'm bothering trying to explain it.

Seeing him looking at her, she paused, trying to work out how to answer the question. "... I'm a hunter." Already her heartbeat grew faster, fearful for what he'd do. "I was taught how to hunt those who hunt us. If someone doesn't pose a threat to me, I won't hurt them. It's as simple as that." And she moved closer, until she caught his eye. "And no, my family isn't at the camp. My father is. Because I don't have anyone else, and now? He probably thinks his only daughter is dead, too."

Derek snorted his disbelief. "It's not 'as simple as that'," he mocked. "You're telling me you wouldn't kill Eterna given half the chance? She didn't hunt you. She's just a part of a system that has been working for thousands of years." Albeit not a part that Derek approved of. He preferred his slaves willing, not coerced. But if this was the attitude Eterna had to deal with, he didn't blame the vampire.

"Eterna is none of your business." She snapped, suddenly on the defensive. She'd had the chance. She could've done it, the vampire had even expected her to, and instead... Allison took a sharp breath, looking away.

"You all have a choice in what you do. You have a choice to leave us the fuck alone, let us live in our camps, let us be free. We wouldn't hurt people who didn't want to hurt us first, to steal us from our families, our friends, our homes. Instead, you support a society where you can buy a person, and do whatever the hell you want to them, and you know that no one will care. You either kill them, let them be miserable, or fuck with their minds until they don't know right from wrong, until they just accept it all." She wiped at her eyes, even surprised by her sudden outburst herself. "It's a system that's worked for your kind for thousands of years. Not mine."

Derek stopped and turned. He could smell the girl's tears, and he studied her face, his expression neutral. "Respectable Masters don't kill their slaves or want them to be miserable," he said, quietly. "I bought Stiles to keep him from going to a Master like that. I'm sorry you weren't as lucky."

"Then Stiles is lucky to have you. So long as I don't hear about you hurting him." She was looking at the ground. She shouldn't be talking about these things with him. She shouldn't trust him. For all she knew, he could be making mental notes of everything she said and did, to pass them onto Eterna for the things she'd done for Stiles.

"... She says she wants me happy." She answered, shrugging to the ground. The truth was sometimes she was - sometimes the pain, the humiliation, the pleasure she gave and received was just right. Sometimes she craved it almost as much as she fought it. But she knew she shouldn't be like that. Stiles shouldn't be like that. "We fought this life, our parents fought this life. They wanted better for us, for us to have lives, have families... That's why we shouldn't be here. So we can live." She answered at last.

He wanted Stiles to have a life. He just wanted that life to be with Derek. Was that so wrong?

Derek turned back around and started walking again. He could see the roof of the garage from here. He called it the garage, but it was an enormous metal structure more like a warehouse than a typical garage, large enough to house his bikes and the workshop space to work on them.

Allison took the silence as a cue to be quiet herself, following him into the garage once they reached it. She wanted to ask him if he had a coat or a blanket, something she could use to warm herself up, but she was stubborn - she didn't want to have to ask him for anything.

"What will you do with me?" She asked, glancing up. "After I see Stiles... Will you tell Eterna?"

Once at the garage, Derek keyed his code into the security keypad and pushed the door open, flicked the lights on. There was a couch just inside to the right and a hooded sweatshirt hanging over the back of a chair.

He picked the sweatshirt up and thrust it at her, then gestured vaguely towards the couch.

What was he going to do with Allison? That was a very good question. And one he wasn't sure he knew the answer to yet.

"Stay here," he barked. "Be quiet. You hear someone other than me, you hide. Got it?"

Quickly, she pulled the sweatshirt over her head, and settled onto the couch, pulling it over her knees too, to keep her warm. She expected his non answer, but nodded - she had to put her trust in him right now. What other choice did she have?

"Got it." She said, glancing at him again. "... Thank you."

Derek didn't say anything further, just turned his back and headed to the main house.

It was early yet, even with Allison's interruption, he hadn't been gone as long as he usually was during his morning runs. Isaac was probably awake, but likely showering, or in the kitchen if he wasn't in his room already.

He entered Stiles' room without knocking and found the human still asleep. He sighed and rubbed his face before walking to the bed, shaking the boy awake. "Get up."

Stiles was in a deep sleep, curled up in the bed that was in his own personal room, when he was rudely woke up by being shook. Stiles groaned and protested, hitting Derek's hands away and turning over. "Five more minutes, dad." Stiles then covered his head with his blanket and tried to go back to sleep.
