Eleanor Rice (12:00:23 AM): Well, the night didn’t end as well as Eleanor predicted. She was harassed at the bar while out with her girlfriends and then ripped one of her dresses crawling out of a cab. It just seemed like the night would never get better. After briefly conversing with Charles via text message, she sat down on the couch with a new book waiting for him to arrive. She assumed he’d be arriving within the hour, it was already after midnight, but when the clock approached 2 a.m. she was thoroughly pissed off. Setting the book on the table, she sat up and stared at her phone waiting for him.
Charles Aldridge (12:16:11 AM): It wasn't until much later that Charles actually left and began the drive to Eleanor's place, a little tired and very much ready for bed. The whole evening had been an unexpected one, although pleasantly surprising. When he got to her door he took a deep breath, vaguely aware of the time before he rang the bell. He sort of regretted that after the fact but it was too late now, if it woke her up.
Eleanor Rice (12:20:14 AM): Fortunately for him sleep was the farthest thing from her mind. Eleanor pushed herself up from the sofa and with her fingers curled white around her phone; she descended the stairs to the front door. In one swift motion she pulled the door open, “where the hell have you been? Charles it’s almost two in the morning. I talked to you a few hours ago. What the hell happened?” She blocked him from entering; his excuse would be the deciding factor on whether or not she let him in. “…Well, I’m waiting.”
Charles Aldridge (12:26:19 AM): He was about to take a step when she blocked him from the door, his eyes finding hers as a frown formed on his face. "I was driving someone home, sorry I'm late." He looked around before looking back at her, closing the space between them with a half step. "Can we do this inside?" he asked her calmly, "so we don't wake up all your neighbors and have the come out to join in?
Eleanor Rice (12:29:41 AM): “Someone?” She asked, brow lifting. “And you couldn’t call me to let me know? Well, I hope she was fucking worth it.” Spinning around she stomped back up the stairs to the main level of her flat. “I can’t believe you. You’re so inconsiderate, who was it Charles? That fucking crack addict whore?” She was so flustered that as her fists clenched tighter her nails began shredding through the skin of her palm.
Charles Aldridge (12:34:20 AM): He stood there with a bit of a surprised look on his face as she turned and went upstairs, he turned once inside and locked the door shut before he followed. "I didn't call because I didn't think I needed to, and no I don't spend time with crack addicted whores." His temper was slowly rising but for the time being he kept it in check. "If you want to know who I was with her name is Stasy, last time I checked she isn't a crack addict. She needed a ride home, what is the problem? I'm sorry I didn't call."
Eleanor Rice (12:37:54 AM): “Stasy?” She snapped, “Oh that little tramp who has been commenting all over that… thing? That whore, well shit Charles why didn’t you just call her a cab. Why did you go out of your way to give her ride? You know that’s like opening Pandora’s Box, now she’ll always be hitting you up for something. People like that are like leeches.” She abandoned him in the living room to walk into the kitchen, after slamming an unnecessary amount of cupboards she found a cup and began filling it with water. “The problem is, I’ve been waiting for you for the past two hours. Instead of being here with me you were out with some other woman. And you didn’t have the decency to call. It’s all about respect Charles and apparently you have none for me.”
Charles Aldridge (12:46:44 AM): "Yeah I could call her a cab and she could pay for it with the money she didn't have," he retorted as he followed her into the kitchen, his temper not rising. "I get that you are pissed I didn't call, that was my fault, I should have. What I don't get is you having a problem with me helping someone else out? would this all change if it were a male? would you somehow be less pissed off? I have a pretty good feeling that it wouldn't be as bad - that you'd deal with it somehow." His speech brought out more of his temper and his voice rose a little more. "Do you not trust me?"
Eleanor Rice (12:54:38 AM): She ignored him. To her, he was just being stupid and going out of his way for no reason. If this whore really needed a ride, a cab would have been efficient. If she had no money, he could have paid for it over the telephone. It was simple; she had done it many times herself. “Yes, you should of.” She repeated glad to know he realized his mistake. “It’s not the fact that you were helping someone out Charles, but you hardly know the girl and here you are toting her around town. I know damn well it doesn’t take two hours to drop some bar whore off. So, what else were you doing?” She slammed the glass down on the table, “it’s not that I don’t trust you. I don’t trust whores.” She had no problem calling the girl out, even if it was an exaggeration. “Is there a reason for me not to trust you? Did something happen that I should know about? Because if it did and you’re lying to me, I will find out. Trust me.”
Charles Aldridge (1:09:19 AM): "I don't know how it makes any difference how long I've known someone for me to help someone out Eleanor," he said sarcastically with an edge to his voice still. "I dropped her off, I had a can of fucking soda, way too many cigarettes and we talked. If you have trust issues that is your own prerogative, I have given you no reason not to trust me, and you should have a little more faith in me to think I have no say in any situation. If you have trust issues IT IS WITH ME." He took off his coat and tossed it away from him, suddenly feeling far too warm.
Eleanor Rice (1:15:47 AM): He was right, but Eleanor hated to admit that. She didn’t like the idea of being defeated, especially in an argument that she facilitated. “In that time that the two of you were talking, it never occurred to you that maybe you should call me? No, she must’ve been that enthralling. I fucking bet. Whores always have ways of entertaining.” She glanced at his coat and then back at him. She was silent for a moment. “You must think I’m a fucking idiot Charles! Is this what you want now? To spend more time with other females, well fuck why are you here?” She picked up his coat and stuffed it into his hands. “If you want to spend you’re time talking to strangers, go right ahead. I don’t fucking care what you do."
Charles Aldridge (1:20:52 AM): "Why the fuck do you think I am here Eleanor?!" his coat was thrown to the floor, although he had wanted to shove it back at her, but refused to let himself get that angry. "Do you really fucking think that I want to give up you to talk to strangers? Does that make sense? WHY THE FUCK would I waste my time arguing with you if that was what I fucking wanted, huh?" His eyes didn't leave hers, and his voice was very loud as he shouted these things to her, as if that would somehow make her hear him properly. It looked bad but he knew where he stood when it came to what had happened.
Eleanor Rice (1:31:20 AM): She didn’t want to believe him, it was easier – for her at least – to make up her own ending. Then to face the potential their relationship had. In all actuality, things were perfect in their relationship (well, until the recent incident) and Eleanor had a hard time accepting that. After all the challenges she faced with Christopher, she didn’t believe in fairy tales there after. Being with Charles felt like just that, she didn’t trust it. So, she pounced on the first instance that would potentially break their surface. She stepped back at the increasing volume of his voice, “Then why couldn’t you fucking call me Charles? Not even when you driving here, you could of at least gave me a heads up. You know how I feel when you don’t call. It’s about respect. I’m always considerate of you when I go with the girls, I call you the moment I climb into the cab and again when I crawl into bed. You’re so damn selfish and inconsiderate.” She tore her gaze from his and glanced down the hall. Pivoting slightly she began to walk sluggishly to her room, leaving him to find the door on his own. “Goodnight.”
Charles Aldridge (1:41:01 AM): "Yeah I could of and I didn't, so here we are now and are we really going to fucking deal with it like this?!" he grabbed her arm and turned her around when she said goodnight and went to leave. "Do you really want to fuck this up over nothing Eleanor?! Is it worth it? Because you don't like some girl I happened to drive home, is it worth this?" all of these words were yelled at her and when he realized what he was doing his hand immediately let go of her and he took a step back, unable to look her in the eyes. His heart was beating a million miles a minute and he could swear he heard it thundering in his chest. "Sorry..." he held his hands up a little, palms facing her.
Eleanor Rice (1:46:34 AM): “Because you weren’t fucking thinking about me, you’re mind was somewhere else Charles! That’s what this argument is—…” With him gripping her arm Eleanor spun around on her heels and fell silent. Never before had he laid a hand on her, and though it wasn’t painful, the shock of it all sent her into a reverie. Images of Christopher and her vegetable state flashed before her, but were washed out as the tears surfaced. When he abandoned her arm, she glanced down at the finger prints pressed into her skin. They faded quickly, but still the image was crisp and clear. “I think you should go home Charles.”
Charles Aldridge (1:52:26 AM): It was unlike him but more so he knew better with her, he knew those things that happened, he knew. "I... " he still couldn't look at her. To the average someone this might not be strange, it might be normal for others, but for them... he felt like he couldn't breath. He bent down and picked up his coat which had been so rudely abandoned. He wanted to touch her, comfort her, be there for her but he couldn't when it was him that put her there. "I... love you sweetheart," he said to her although his eyes were trained on the fabric in his hands. There was no point in waiting for a reply, he didn't expect one so he turned and made his way out.
Eleanor Rice (1:58:04 AM): She remained focused on the even wood panels of her floor. Eleanor still couldn’t believe the events that had taken place that night. That wasn’t Charles, it couldn’t be. He’d never put a hand on her, she didn’t want to believe it. But then again, with Christopher she didn’t want to believe it either. Look where she ended up there, after a minute or two of dazing she turned around and continued down the hall. In the process of crawling onto her bed, the water works began full force.
