Rules and Posting Guidelines
There are only 2 rules: 1. Don't be an idiot. 2. Don't be a bitch.
There are slightly more posting guidelines:
1. There are three ways to communicate in this game: in person (logs), by phone (comment wars), or in writing (notes, letters, documents, newspaper articles, etc.). All of these will be posted to this community. a. You guys know how to do a log, so I'm not going to bother you about it - label it in whatever style you like, and just make sure to warn people of anything potentially objectionable included.
b. Obviously we have no magic or internet in Chicago, 1931. However, I still wanted comment wars to be an option. Therefore, we're going to try making use of the phone. Here's how to do it: - For your opening, just do a quick intro to let us know who's making the call, where he or she is calling from, and who is being called. From there on out, it can run just like any other comment war - bounce them back and forth, using your icons to get across what tone of voice would on the phone. - Keep in mind that phones can be tapped easily in '31, and that most people are not going to have private phone lines. If you live in an apartment building, odds are that you'll be sharing a phone line with several of your neighbors. However, you also have the advantage of a world without surveillance cameras, so if you use a phone that's not at your house, anonymity is easier to guarantee.
c. Written communication is posted to the community just like owls are in FTH. You can post notes, memos, letters, newspaper articles, radio broadcasts, diary entries - just make sure you indicate what it is and who would be in a position to read it. Public communications will be posted in the main community. PRIVATE communications, however (Notes to self, diary entries, etc.) will be posted to personal journals.
And finally, regarding accuracy: Be historically and geographically accurate to a certain point - that is, to a very SHALLOW point. Do not drive yourself crazy trying to get everything just right; just go watch a couple of Greta Garbo movies and remember that Chicago is in Illinois. Remember that we're going for a fun, romanticized version of the era. In the end, how much research you feel like doing is entirely up to you, but for goodness sakes don't go getting on anybody else's case about how much they want to do.
