King Paegon the Just has ruled the Seven Kingdoms for twenty peaceful years. His reign brought peace to the fractious fighting between the Houses Martell and Tyrell in the South, saw the end of the Mountain Clans that had troubled House Arryn since before the return of Queen Daenerys. Under his policies, trade with the Free Cities has flourished, and piracy has become a rare event. He marched with House Stark to subdue the latest Greyjoy rebellion while still a prince, and spent the early years of his reign encouraging the development of the iron mines in the Iron Islands. King Paegon is dead. An assassin's arrow slew the great king and threw the kingdom into the darkness of uncertainty. Paegon died in his brother's arms, in front of the crowd gathered for what would have been the greatest tournament of its age. The dragons of House Targaryen could not shield their masters the coming chaos. The panicked crowds stained the tourney grounds with their blood as they trampled one another in the furor. Nobles and commoner alike perished in the riot as rumors spread like wildfire and swords were drawn to quell the threat seeming to lurk in every shadow. The king's brother, his Hand, seized control of the city only to find himself fleeing for his life as suspicion turned on him with the discovery of the lifeless body of the king's dragon. The Crown Prince too was forced into hiding after assassins attacked his ship. Long live King Jaehaerys. Jaehaerys returned with his dragons and has taken his throne, reclaiming it from the regents of House Stark, who held it in trust (or so they say), yet it is a foolish king who rests easy on the Iron Throne. For five centures, the Targaryens have reigned, yet now the powers of the world watch with greedy anticipation as Westeros sinks into turmoil. Multifandom Asylum-Based IJ RPG. [08 Dec 2009|11:23pm] The Plot | Rules and FAQ | Wanted Taken and Held | Doctors and Nurses | Application As children, we're expected not just to believe in fairy tales, but to embrace them. Boys can fly and live as children forever, girls can be rescued from their evil step-mothers and whisked away to castles in pumpkin coaches; the world is an endless stretch of possibility set against a backdrop of inherent freedom. It is only a fiction. The world eventually reveals itself to be an unkind place, the villains not easily defeated, no fairy godmother to come to the rescue. The loss of innocence is taken in stride by some, and those fortunate masses go on to become grown-ups, to live out their lives in some boring profession or another, to forget magic after passing it along to their own children. But what of those who grow older without growing up? What if Alice witnessed something so terrifying that she never wanted to leave Wonderland? What if Belle's beast was so cunning and so cruel that she could not bear to part from him, his murder of her father aside? For all of those who fell through the cracks, for the most unique and the least privileged, the untouchable and the uncared for, for the most heartbreaking and horrifying, there exists a refuge.
