Who: Buffy & Riley
When: Week Four, Afternoon
Where: The Mall
Status: Closed, but Incomplete
She glanced at her cell phone for the time and for any missed calls or text messages, anxiously bouncing on her heels. He was only a couple minutes late, but she felt like she was waiting for a date and worried about being stood up. She shook her head, feeling completely ridiculous for being so nervous about hanging out with her ex-honey. She seemed to be doing that a lot lately. First Angel, and now Riley. And only awkward and difficult talks seemed to be resulting from these meetings.
It was his fleeting suggestion really, but she was the one who agreed. She felt like she needed to get out of her little apartment more and start socializing. Otherwise she'd become one of those crazy old ladies who could only live with cats. Actually, probably not even cats with all the weapons she had lying around. Way too dangerous.
So here she was. Standing outside the mall after agreeing to help Riley pick out some non-army clothing. One would think for a fashionista like herself, this would be a dream come true. (She tended to enjoy dressing her friends when they let her--but that was back in the very early days of high school.) But, she had that uncomfortable pit feeling in her stomach, like millions of butterflies flying around. Sure, Buffy could feign completely normalcy when she was around him, but she couldn't ignore her nervousness. She tried to tell herself this was normal, but being around Riley tended to send her head spinning, mostly because she still felt guilty for being too late. She tended to let the 'what-if's float in her mind more than usual lately.
