Alistair swallowed hard, and blinked past the tears welling in his eyes. "I'm sorry...it was the only thing I could think of that would let us all stay." He drew in a shuddery breath, eyes fixated straight in front of him on the road. "And yes, you do get a say, I'm not such a cad that you wouldn't get a say in it. It's hard to have an equal giving partnership that's one-sided." He took an other breath and switched lanes.
"I dearly want to have this conversation with you, preferably with candles, dessert, and that wine we liked so much, but I...can't right now. I love you, and I know I'm acting off and I promise to tell you just as soon as I've hugged Danu." He finished, some small part of him feeling proud that he managed to say most of that with his voice quavering. "Cause if I tell you now, we'll never get there."
